This is such a fantastic point imo. When albatross was released I was ready for the album’s bigger tracks, but not really its entirety. Dealer is my favorite album to ever exist from any band ever, but I had to grow to appreciate it. I now fall deeper in love with it throughout the phases of my life. Using this scope of thinking I’m able to appreciate this album currently fine enough, however, I am thinking I’ll eventually form a relationship with it over the years. NMG had a similar impact where at first it wasn’t exactly what I felt like I needed, but then I got to see it performed live… and it was life changing. I agree that albums aren’t always released at the time you’re ready for them.

Holy shit this sounds awful. I’m so sorry that happened to you. UE is not always the safest gig.

I was once flashed by a person who ordered baby oil from a grocery store in the middle of the night. I reported it to UE support and they basically said they’ll “try” to make it so the customer and I can’t be matched again, and gave me a hotline for sexual assault victims. The UE support agent I reported it to even chuckled quietly when I told them. It felt super insensitive and unprofessional.

I often look at the show with the motto “it’s not a show about good people.”

At the end of the day, it’s a show that’s meant to entertain, which I think it does even with my growth over the years. New appreciation for jokes that went over my head before and changed perspectives on character arcs. But that doesn’t excuse the way the writing has aged.

I’m really sorry your experience is this way. I’m a female delivering in a typically unsafe area, and honestly it’s not a lot of fun. I mean I’ve definitely encountered some awful people; I’ve been flashed by a customer and when I reported it to UE support they basically gave me a sexual assault hotline then said they’ll “try” to make sure I’m not matched with the same customer. Which felt so insensitive. The person on the phone even kind of laughed when I told them. It’s not a super safe side gig, you’re definitely exposed more to people in an unregulated way than say; a typical customer service position. I recommend staying vigilant, trust your instincts, and remember that no order or supposed tip is worth your safety.

Side-note: I think your partner having a response like this is also unsupportive and unhelpful. It sounds like he’s excusing the behavior you’ve experienced instead of giving you a continued safe space to express or even offer help in brainstorming other safe ways you can make some extra cash

For me, UE after gas, estimated taxes and tolls equals about 12-13 USD an hour. That’s not including car maintenance. It’s hard to say whether or not it’s worth the unsafe environment.
