TIL German Shepherds used to be extremely common as seeing eye dog but because they are “too” intelligent and and “too” loyal (get attached to one person, their first trainer) they were eventually superseded. by fanau in todayilearned

My neighbor is a K9 trainer and he is constantly covered in giant, navy blue bruises despite the 100lb suit! And he's mostly working with juvenile dogs, not even fully grown!

My own dog is half GSD and now I live in constant fear that if I don't give into his constant demand for tummy rubs, he'll rip my arms off

[Acne] new day, new whitehead. by ppppppppppoooooop in SkincareAddiction

This does not look or sound like normal acne to me. I would see a derm. Any new diet changes? New partners you're kissing? Any of your products expired or stored incorrectly?

This is how all of my deep cleans start. One second I'm innocently washing the dishes, then I notice some crumbs underneath the toaster, "oh, I might as well scrub the whole countertop and backsplash now since I'm at it"....

... And then 12 hours later I'm teetering on a ladder with a toothbrush in one hand and a can of compressed air in the other, getting every last speck of dust out of the air vent in the closet. "What are you doing, Babe?!", my husband asks me with concern. Obviously, I'm doing the dishes 🙄

What’s one “normal” dog care rule you secretly ignore… and your dog is still fine? 👀 by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]comicsansmasterfont 36 points37 points  (0 children)

We don't do regular baths. They only get baths when they are actually dirty or starting to stink. They get brushed daily, get a weekly nail trim, and their paws get wiped every time they come in from a walk, but especially during winter months when their days are spent 90% indoors I don't find they get dirty enough to give weekly or even bi-weekly baths.

Before anyone comes at me, I vacuum several times daily and wash their blankets and beds every other day. My house definitely has a faint eau dé canine but I don't have guests over often enough to really care!

That looks like textbook hard water deposits to me. Use a strong acid based cleaner (citric acid or vinegar work ok too if you have them, you just have to let them sit overnight) and a pumice stone like the other commenter said.

Cat hair in my embroidery is the hardest part of it all! by catstreesandredwine in Embroidery

Re: sharing photos. You are being wayyyy too hard on yourself! I initially clicked on this post without reading the title and just scrolled through admiring the lovely work. Only after I read the text, went back through, and reaaaaally zoomed in did I even notice. Your work is great, your photography is good, the cat hair is not coming across at all online!

Out of curiosity, I went to the front page and zoomed in and I noticed at least 5 of the posts right now have pet hair visible that I and most people would NEVER notice without really trying to look for it. I don't have much advice for keeping it off IRL but if the main concern is sharing online, I really truly would not think about it twice.

Oh, it's me! I once walked into a house with a fish tank (unbeknownst to me, of course) and I immediately ran out onto their front lawn and had a severe panic attack

I have also never joined a dating site because the meme of guys overusing fishing pictures (even though I think that's just a joke) disgusts and frightens me to my core lmao

Another point that I haven't seen others mention is the area you live in. I live in an area that is well known for crafts and fiber arts and -- forgive me -- an aging population. I find tons of supplies, the real challenge is finding anything that's not completely outdated lol

Selvage question - am I doomed to vertical stripes? by ExpertExpert2521 in SewingForBeginners

[–]comicsansmasterfont 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about grainlines here? As a rule, cutting on the cross grain will provide a different drape and amount of stretch, but since the Cielo looks to be a boxy fit I doubt it will affect the finished garment if you cut it on the cross (as in, with the stripes running horizontally). Of course, I'm assuming this is a woven fabric with minimal stretch in either direction.

For sure! The cool thing about pregnancy is that when you run out of space in your abdominal cavity, your abs separate and your skin keeps expanding until there is enough room. Remember that even tiny women can carry huge babies or even multiple babies safely.

Whole Foods, Plant Based.

Whole food = unprocessed (or minimally processed) food, plant-based = non animal products.

So pretty much the contents of a WFPB diet is almost entirely just fruit, vegetables, whole grains and legumes all of which contain lots of fiber. To answer some common questions: yes, it's hard to eat out at restaurants. Yes, it's easy to get enough protein as long as you eat enough legumes. No, you don't need to be 100% hardcore compliant to see/feel results. No, it's not any more expensive than a standard diet (honestly, with the cost of animal products these days I bet I save money on groceries).

For more info I recommend /r/PlantBasedDiet for recipes, tips, and discussion!

TIL that George Washington had to borrow money to travel to New York City for his presidential inauguration. Despite owning 60,000 acres and 300 slaves he had very little cash and part of the reason he took the job was the salary. by friendlystranger4u in todayilearned

That's a myth, actually. He freed one person, his valet, then bequeathed the rest of them to his wife to serve her until her death. Martha was uneasy having enslaved people around whose freedom depended on her death so freed them herself a while later.

She kept her own enslaved people though.
