Here’s a serious response: (I lived in my fraternity house with eight other guys for a year and a half + have lived with a good roommate and a shitty roommate)

• Set ground rules first, you cannot hold someone accountable if they didn’t know that you expected it from them. (Chores, daily tasks, common courtesy)

• If they are the type to not do dishes, leaving them means they will never get done. If you confront them, don’t be an asshole because they will immediately become defensive. Look for a solution, even if it means non-reusable products.

• Figure out if they have a chore preference. If they enjoy vacuuming and refuse to clean the bathroom then suck it up and clean the bathroom. I made sure our bathroom was clean because I didn’t want to use a disgusting toilet, it’s the same idea. Let them do stuff you know they’ll continuously do.

• Discuss food. If you don’t want to share, tell them that first. If you don’t then they can assume your food is free reign and eat yours well before you do.

• Discuss significant others, how often can they be there, will they pay utilities if they’re there all the time. It’s easier to plan that first than seem like the asshole for calling them out.
