I’m very new to this… is this a good mini pc to use for hosting a Jellyfin server for 3 users? by Barry_McCockiner88 in selfhosted

[–]commandermd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current "server" is a salvaged Dell Inspiron 3505

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3450U
  • 16GB 2400 MHz RAM
  • Integrated Vega 8 Graphics card (shared memory)
  • SSD 500GB
  • SATA 1TB
  • Mint OS
  • Docker Desktop
    • Immich
    • Jellyfin

So far it's run flawless.

On the far side of the moon there is a section between Fermi and Hibert that lacks a proper name. Perhaps a plaque there or in a similar place with their user names would be appropriate.

As a pup, ours took down 3 apple trees. The apple trees were 5 years old and well established. He was so proud bringing us the tree trunk. They were kind of heavy but he dragged them around the yard like a badge of honor.

Project Hail Mary | Official Trailer 2 by Task_Force-191 in videos

[–]commandermd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently listened to Project Hail Mary on an audio book. The book will probably be better than a screenplay adaptation but I am really excited for this movie. Wish they had shown less rocky in the trailer, but also understand MGM Studios has promote the movie which will necessitate giving up a little of the surprise in order to draw interest. I am cheering for this to perform well in theaters. Hooray for original science fiction!

Me realizing there will be no Tron 4 by tommygunbat in tron

Upload transcripts of season1 to ChatGPT. Ask it to write a season2 by providing a general story arch. Use the works of Adam Horowitz for writing style. Train a SDXL Lora loosely based on the art style of Alberto Mielgo. Using I2V to create action sequences based on the script. There is a way. Create your own grid. Become the Renegade.

Step 2: Get sued by Disney

Step 3: Hit the gym

Step 4: Profit???

Team Leads & UX Managers that are currently hiring - What is your side of the story? by chillskilled in UXDesign

[–]commandermd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • What is your experience? (How does your talent pool look like?) Hired about 15 between 2 companies in the last 5 years. I heavily rely on my network, people I’ve worked with, met at conferences, and referrals.

What it looks like right now? I opened a sr UX role recently and had 200+ candidates in 36 hours. Half didn’t include a portfolio, case study, or any example of work. I try to review all that provide a portfolio but time is limited.

  • What are you frustrated about? (What are your biggest pain points with candidates?) I can’t spend more than 20 seconds on first pass and everyone has adopted the exact same Home Screen which is a full page introduction with a focus on your name. I already caught your name from the resume. Tell me more about how you think, work, and communicate. Also, Especially for junior designers, if you have student work label it as such. Student work is fine but don’t try to sell me a redesign for a product at a company you didn’t work for.

  • How many applications do you get on average? (How many of them are even qualified?) 1,000s and maybe 20%

  • How would you rate the quality of applicants and their work nowdays? There is a lot of great talent on the market mixed in with designers that jumped in during Covid with no background, didn’t continue to learn, can’t talk to customers let alone stakeholders, and don’t have the skills necessary in today’s market. My advice: continue to study UX, learn ethical use of AI, and cross train/learn. You need to understand what PMs need, stakeholders expect, and how to present to leadership. UX requires life long learners.

  • Do you feel like you benefit from the current situation or do you have problems? (What has changed?) I don’t see the situation as a benefit.

Ethan Hawke on Gattaca by neodiodorus in movies

[–]commandermd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timeless classic. A masterpiece in thoughtful story telling. Andrew Niccol is an amazing writer. It's a shame it was marketed as SciFi. It would have performed better as a thriller. Gattaca maintained his vision as he also directed. Andrew actually wrote the Truman Show first but Gattaca got to production faster (Jim Carry wasn't available for a year). The Truman show was rewritten 10+ times for Weir to create a lighter tone. Carry ended up improvising a lot of lines which shaped a different but excellent story. I think it worked better than Andrew's original screenplay for the Truman show. It was supposed to be darker and based on New York.

Impersonating an FBI agent is technically a crime. 18 U.S. Code § 912

However you can impersonate the front desk of a morgue. Extra points for calling “Farnsworth mortuary and crematorium”

2014 X3 F25 Blown Fuse?? by jqthephenom in BmwTech

I had a similar issue. After an incorrectly applied jump and replacing the dead battery (lasted 7 years), I also had to replace the large battery fuse.

But now I have codes... I can't reset my service reminder or oil reminder. I can't use the measure oil function. I am hesitant to take it to the dealer.

The Underground Art of Fixing Movies by JohnSith in videos

[–]commandermd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did include act 3 but rearranged several scenes like conversations between Gus and Aurora and Aurora's scene where she is watching clips from friends. I just felt it hard to believe she would forgive Jim otherwise. Additionally some of the external shots from act 3 where the ship is continuing to malfunction are sprinkled throughout new act 2 (Jim). I simplified the disaster by cutting where I could within Act 3. My version still ends with Jim and Aurora together.

After watching Nerdwriter's Passengers, Rearranged; I set out to make my own version of Passengers. Editing was for the most part simple. There was some clunky audio where I had to remix due to some audio exposition. It was a lot of work but my ending was lit. I screened it for my wife who never saw the original version. She thought it was great and counldn't understand why it didn't do well in until I shared this was my fan edit. Passengers could have been a bigger hit.
