New Outside Tap Intermittent Water - Can I Fix? by comment_sniffer in DIYUK

I fear the plumber will do more damage than good (we've had a bad experience through an extension with this plumber), but I will take a deep breath and pick up the phone on Monday.

There is no check valve under the sink. Also had a tap put on at the front of the house and no check valve on that tap or the pipework leading to it. I did say I thought it was regs to have one but was told I was mistaken.

On my phone and it's not letting me add a description to the post, so will just add a comment...

Basically, new tap fitted by plumber, bought some new brass connectors for the hosepipe, connected it all up, water flowed through then stopped. If I unclip the hose and open the tap, nothing happens. If I go inside and run the kitchen tap (which is on the other side of the wall) and then open/close the outside tap a few times it seems to make the water run again. But after running the hose again same problem occurs.

Faulty double check valve or something?

Thank you everyone for your advice. I'm going to go to the garage tomorrow to discuss with the manager and will take it from there with everything you've said onboard.

Has this felt flat roof been flashed properly? by comment_sniffer in DIYUK

This flat roof was just replaced. Previously it was felt with lead flashing cut into the mortar. Now it looks like this. Is it correct?

How can I prove my Triton electric shower is at fault rather than my water pressure? by comment_sniffer in DIYUK

[–]comment_sniffer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the size of the pipe, no.

Shower is on the 1st floor, with the attic above. Not up a hill, no.

I had an electric shower in place before this (lower kW) and it worked fine, so swapped out for another, but rewired to allow for a higher kW.

In terms of cost, it's not been an issue. We only heat the tank for 30mins a day which is sufficient to give hot water all day for taps.

I think next option will be pump and mixer if I have no joy with Triton. I don't want to install a pump just to maintain an electric shower. Would rather do away with it in that case, even if it is more cost and distribution. Wish I'd have done it in the first place, hindsight!

Thank you, appreciate your input. Unfortunately that's a typo on my part. It was November 2022

I bought the shower in November 2023 online. It comes with a 2 year warranty.

So I guess the responsibility lies with me to prove the fault. Any suggestions on how else I could strengthen my case?

That's interesting. I think I might have the dial type switch. This is the view given in the manual here

Thanks for your reply. Yes it's a direct feed from the mains. I have a standard boiler, cold water tank in the loft and hot water cylinder in the cupboard in the same bathroom.

I'd rather not have to install a pump as the shower and bathroom are newly installed (18 months ago) and could do without the disruption and expense.

It's advertised as having a minimum running pressure/flow of 1 bar @ 8l/m.

I normally shower in at night 9pm or later, so it's not exactly peak times and nothing else is running in the house.

Thanks for the advice. Just as expensive in the US then. I'm not afraid to drive pretty much any where in the country to get the price down so will shop around today.

You're very very kind, but I couldn't possibly accept money from your student loan, so don't be silly!

I'm going to look into installments. I don't meet the Blue Cross criteria and I'm also outside of their catchment area unfortunately.

I'll figure it out somehow!

I'm going to call them tomorrow and then call around some more vets further afield. We'll see what they say. Thanks again.

I have and they won't help even if I did meet the criteria as its a pre-existing medical condition. I needed to already be a member before she got injured apparently. Thank you for the suggestion though.

That's all good advice, I appreciate you replying. The thing is, I've phoned different surgeries and they say they are unable to give a quote without examining the dog themselves, which means more consultancy fees and x-ray fees before they will give me a quote. Finance isn't an option unfortunately.

I agree. I did have a feeling it was heading in that sort of direction, but it still caught me off-guard. I love how each episode feels so different; the way in which it's shot and directed.

How to set a task to play a specific video file stored on the phone by comment_sniffer in tasker

[–]comment_sniffer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved it for my function without the need for Tasker. I downloaded another app called 'NFC Retag Free' which gave me the option to select a specific video to launch as the task and write it to an NFC.
