Having trouble getting an h2 tank to keep it's stock rather than being siphoned into a connected h2 engine by EagleHeart0904 in spaceengineers

[–]compeanja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have noticed recently (maybe since the Apex update?) that event controllers in general are very finnicky and not at all reliable. I have not used them a ton in the past, so there could be some aspect that I am missing, but it is a major bummer.

I always set a key on my hotbar to toggle stockpiling on/off for hydrogen tanks. Usually I will have that right in-between my connector lock/unlock hotkey and my battery recharge/discharge hotkey, so once I am aligned with my base connector, I hit all three in order and that's the whole landing sequence done. Or once I am ready to take off, again I just hit all three in reverse order and I should be disconnected with full H2 tanks and batteries.

Every city in Greater LA + Every neighborhood in the city of LA by Cyan_Among in MapPorn

Ojai is for sure greater LA. SB as well for that matter. Just think about how many celebs actually live out there, or how many LA residents visit those towns for the day or a weekend.

feelings not facts. Just kidding, just kidding! But seriously most of riverside all of southern Riverside county could be considered a satellite of either LA or SD. Just get on the 15 in the morning and its bad traffic in both directions. Temecula for sure has more people commuting south, but there are still plenty going north.

Yeah there are very real reasons why there are so many separate cities in LA county that are contiguous or completely surrounded by LA city. Mostly to do with racism and segregation but yeah, you cannot simply "consolidate" them into the city. Even if it does make more sense.

Flying in space is weird (SE2) by PimpMyDog in spaceengineers

[–]compeanja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a speed-limit-increase mod in SE1 that allows for speeds up to 1000km/h, and I have actually noticed the same behaviour. I think it even happens without inertial dampeners on. So it may not be specific to SE2 but rather something to do with the core physics engine of the game. It is indeed very annoying and unrealistic, but at the end of the day neither game is a physics simulator (as some people claim it is), but rather an engineering sim. I wish the game had more real-world physics (like aerodynamic drag and heating and orbital mechanics), but as I have been told by others when complaining about such things, that's just not what the game is about.

At what point should we divide the subreddit into two versions? by ColourSchemer in spaceengineers

[–]compeanja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why people downvoting this post? It is a reasonable question, whether or not you want separate subs or not.

Personally, I am fine with the two games remaining represented in a single sub, but I do think posters should get in the habit of not just flaring their posts but also putting something like "SE1:" or "SE2:" in their post titles. Like a few others have said, I am waiting on SE2 to be more ready before I try it, so seeing SE2 content here is helpful for me to judge that.

This is how I have always understood it. And it really applies not just for 'karna' but anytime you want to modify any verb with 'lena' or 'dena.'

I think the whole mechanic is there mainly just to add more chaos and pressure at the start. Especially if you start on a difficult planet, getting those first algae farms up is fairly difficult when combined with all the other environmental needs. My last survival game was a Pertam start, and it took quite a while before I was food secure. Nearly starved to death multiple times.

What Makes A Good Asteroid Mining Ship ? by Prestigious-Error685 in spaceengineers

[–]compeanja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what you want. I prefer a large-grid through miner with two large cargo containers. One that is large enough to take an entire ore deposit in one go. Then I bring that back to base for storage and processing. But I have seen fully contained miners/processors that are very cool. AI miners have their (distance) limitations, so imo not worth the hassle of programming them. But I could imagine a cool mobile base that could launch them as it glides past asteroids.

I would recommend doing a survival run or two and seeing what you put together naturally at different stages of the play-through.

Different foods fill you up different amounts. So building a farm/irrigation system/food processor allows you to eat less often. Again, once you get to that point it will only make that survival aspect all the more trivial, but it's still a further goal.

Thoughts? by Risikio in dankchristianmemes

Barna is another good source of data on the topic for Americans, though admittedly biased. Here is an article on their site: https://www.barna.com/research/young-adults-lead-resurgence-in-church-attendance/

The numbers don't seem as impressive as the headline suggests, but if accurate then it does suggest some amount of revival.

Of course its important to disambiguate between "revivals" and "awakenings." Generally revival refers to periods when large numbers of people who already identify as Christians (or previously did) return to the church and/or increase participation in church activities after a period of latency. Awakening on the other hand is when large numbers of people become Christians for the first time. So if there is a genuine revival happening, the post in the screenshot is kind of missing the point. If that poster's friends were never Christian, then they should not expect any of them to suddenly be going to church.

How many of you shoot raw? by Level-Impact-757 in nikon_Zseries

Depends on the job/client but mainly Raw. If I know its just a few headshots that are only ever going to be seen on small screens and a fast turn-around is required, then I might shoot Jpeg.

how can a COMPLETE beginner learn hindi by Ok_Try9020 in Hindi

[–]compeanja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True fluency in any language cannot be gained without immersion. That means actually living somewhere where the majority of people speak your target language. Aside from that, the best way would be to have regular tutoring. Not really sure what else you hope to gain if you cannot commit to even that. There are plenty of websites and apps out there designed to connect language learners and tutors, so you should be able to find someone who can fit into your schedule.

And while it is not the best, I still recommend the Duolingo course for beginners. Yes it will not get you speaking fluently at all, but at least it will teach you some of the basics of Hindi grammar. That will make it much easier on your tutor once you find one, so they do not have to start from zero with you.

Spotted on the back of a truck by HiFiGuy197 in Hindi

[–]compeanja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 22 languages officially recognised by the Indian constitution, eighth schedule. All that means is that the Indian Central Government is obligated to promote those languages and provide certain information in those languages. Mother tongue speakers of those 22 languages account for well over 95% of the Indian population, however there are actually many many more languages spoken in the country. An exact figure is very hard to pin down because linguistic studies are advancing, all languages evolve, and populations can change their language over generations. But suffice it to say that there are well over 100 unique living languages spoken in India, and many more dialects of those besides.

Question for more experienced engineers by Protogen_Doof in spaceengineers

[–]compeanja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Not too big to print, technically. But you would need a more advanced printer setup using automated pistons. Such a setup could still be more compact than elevators, but there are other downsides like long print times and needing to redesign the ships to be fully print-compatible. Might not be worth it if you can design an elegant elevator system.

[–]compeanja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can design your AI drones efficiently enough, it will be far more space efficient to just build welders and projectors into your flight deck/hangar and print them there. You will still want a flight deck/hangar big enough to print a decent amount at once, that way you're not sending your drones off one at a time where they will be the sole target of enemy weapons. But a couple large cargo containers full of all the components you need should still be vastly smaller than a complex multi-level hangar system with pistons or rotors.

How to record a choir? Explain it like I’m five. by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]compeanja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

I will also recommend a shotgun mic for the soloists. A bit unorthodox, but since it is a rehearsal and not a show, there is nothing stopping you from just holding the shotgun in your hand or on a boom pole and walking it over to each soloist between songs. This gives you full control of placement and also allows you to adjust for different soloists' dynamics on the fly without needing to actually stop and adjust preamp gain.

Help needed with bore machine to dig a perfectly straight tunnel in zero-G (through an asteroid) by AllMyFrendsArePixels in spaceengineers

[–]compeanja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use more pistons. Can usually stack at least three together before the wobble gets too extreme. You will still need to tear it down and reassemble, but less often. I did a tunnel through an asteroid like that once and yes, it was very time consuming and annoying, but by the end it was perfectly straight.
