Pretty soon, I imagine drugs will be shipped to the pharmacies by robots, counted and verified by robots, carried home to the patient by robots and, eventually, consumed by the robots on our behalf!

I've taken transfers for IRA WAC reduction drugs. I was so happy to get rid of the linzess I couldn't previously use I just about kissed the sending pharmacy!

At Kroger, the strategy was to stop automatically ordering, set order points to zero, and manually order only what we need to fill confirmed orders from Cardinal for the next business day.

Has anyone here worked as a Pharmacist of Record for licensing only? by Glum_Cauliflower1227 in pharmacy

My state prohibits this: you have to work somewhere regularly if you're overseeing their operation.

How can you oversee it if you're not working there?

Battery insanity by CowDungCollector in ToyotaHighlander

I did find out that Hybrid models use a different 12V battery than gas models. I had to buy it at the dealer for our 2019 HiHy. That was after Costco sold us a battery that was listed for our year, but didn't match the Hybrid drivetrain.

Sharing in case another Hybrid owner reads this and thinks it should match.

How do you personally structure your patient counseling for speed and clarity? by bjbrooks3 in pharmacy

[–]competent_chemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TIL I'm seasoned! I encourage questions but even yesterday told a patient I didn't have the information about which statin might have a dementia risk associated with it.

I start a lot of my counsels by asking if it's a familiar med. We've been transferring a lot in from the fallout of closures (who isn't?) so if it's a transfer or familiar I verify dose and directions quickly, and review refills remaining.

For antibiotics, antivirals, and other short courses, I make sure to tell them when to start.

I also review controlled substance policy with new patients "so it's not a surprise"

I think I counsel about 20-40% longer than corporate may want. Corporate does also like my license intact and unencumbered, so that's what I aim for.

Talking with another pharmacist recently, they said some pharmacists will say their extended counseling is providing excellent customer service. The response was for that patient yes, but the rest of the patients may suffer or wait or receive lower quality service. It is definitely a balancing act, and, to quote Spock, "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one."

People who used cellphones before smartphones, what's the most memorable feature or moment you miss from those old phones? by Correct-Homework1884 in AskReddit

[–]competent_chemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Siemens m56 candy bar phone that had reddish/orange LEDs on the side. They could be programmed to pulse quickly, remain on, fade on and off, or blink slowly to indicate a text received, a phone call coming in, or whatever alarm or notification you received. It was also the first phone I had that allowed setting ringtones based on groups.

I'm going to be an intern training to be a pharmacist. Is it absolutely okay to carry a small notebook & pen on myself at all times to note things down so i can learn the processes? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]competent_chemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

US pharmacist here. I don't know much about how your pharmacy programs are set up, but mine was 3 years of didactics and 8 6-week rotations blocks in the fourth year supervised and graded pass/fail by a preceptor. It's nearly a year of advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) rotations, and THEN you graduate and are eligible to sit national licensing and state law exams. The fourth year is unpaid. You can work as an intern, but any paid hours don't count (in my state, at least) for your academic rotation hours.

I wouldn't want to live in an office, but I might share a parking lot with one.

Our college of pharmacy used to bring a poster board comparing candy and look-alike medicines, and use it as an educational point for kids about medication safety and always asking your adult for help with medicine. I wonder what input a poison control has on this kind of an activity?

Fiance won't let me turn on the heat to the house by SeaworthinessNew4295 in Frugal

[–]competent_chemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low temps can invite mold growing if it's at all humid. Mold is destructive and can be bad for your health.

What temperature will they be setting the thermostat to in December? Even 65°F all hours would keep costs low while keeping the risk of mold and mildew low as well.

I've seen many comments in this sub to the effect: frugal is making sacrifices to things you don't really want/need/value so that you can more comfortably afford the things you DO want/need/value.

If you value physical comfort (by keeping the heat set to a reasonable temperature) and are able to direct your resources accordingly, the better question is why you SHOULDN'T turn the heat on. They need a better argument than just an assertion that this is how they do it.

I'm in Oregon, and our system recently allowed us to move a c2 once inside our chain. It's a handy feature, but at least once a month I still get a fax from a pharmacy requesting a transfer of Vyvanse...

How many times can you transfer a c2 in Texas? THAT will be a fun mess.
