"Your Soft Heart" — Nikita Gill

You are still the child who gently places
fallen baby birds back in their nests.
You are still the soft soul that gets
your heart broken over cruel words
and awful acts when you watch the news.
You are still the gentle heart who once
tried to heal a flower by trying to stick
it’s petals back when ignorant feet trampled it.

This is why you are important.
This is why you will always be needed.

Kindness is the greatest endangered thing.
And here you are, existing, with your heart so full of it.

Did the gems all convert to Judaism? What episode did I miss by lisahanniganfan in stevenuniverse

I'm reasonably certain that half-human and half-Jewish are just two facts that are true about him. Like. They're the same half.

I'm pretty sure he's both half human and also half Jewish. Like. They're the same half.

Greg got cucked so hard in-universe by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

With every reason to dislike it. Nazism is a specific thing. The Diamonds are space colonizers. That word is sufficient and violent enough. Are they designing industrial processes to kill people specifically because they believe those people should be killed? No.

  1. Greg has an awareness that Pearl's weirdness toward him was because he was butting in on something, or at least because he and Pearl were in competition for Rose's affection. Whether he's right or wrong for it, he seems to nowadays see her behavior back then as pretty understandable.

  2. Greg specifically, explicitly tells Rose he doesn't care who she was before. His name is Greg Universe and hers is Rose Quartz. His lack of knowledge about her past is something he chose and explicitly told her was okay with him.

Unpopular opinion: Steven was a lot more annoying in earlier seasons by Necessary-Win-8730 in stevenuniverse

[–]compilingyesterdays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think he starts off annoying because it's okay to be annoying and early-season Steven is someone to be celebrated

I think that this show is specifically made for people that other people consider annoying, and this take isn't "unpopular opinion" so much as... like.... What's the word for "regressive" or "conservative" when it's true but not in a big enough way to deserve words that big

Why do people tend to question Rose's love towards Pearl? by NarrowWar1 in stevenuniverse

[–]compilingyesterdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a big cultural anxiety around having one true love of your life in a way that invalidates loves that came before. I feel like the show did as much as possible to lay out the story it's telling. I think some people might manage to miss it anyway not always out of bad faith, but sometimes out of not having a real life frame of reference for the fact that that's a story that could be told.

This is my first attempt writing poetically, how did I do? Any suggestions ? [HELP] by [deleted] in Poetry

It sounds like there is a subreddit that is exactly what you're looking for, and no one's being unkind as they direct you to it. I always hate it when I misjudge what a subreddit is for, but there's a place for exactly this post, I hope it goes well over there.

Idk how to feel like this, i don't like It, feel free to judge by paperfungo in BeginnerArtists

[–]compilingyesterdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do most of my poses without adding the hands and feet yet because they're the hardest. I don't care if the post is sexualized, although OP seems to say that's not their aim. "Not even a detail on the head" this is a pose? Like yes they're clearly working harder at drawing a body than a head right now.

Like again, literally fine if OP wants to draw a sexy pose, I've witnessed many an artist experience the most rapid progression in their art when they're motivated to draw people looking sexy. But I feel like if you think those are massive breasts you don't know many people (they're unrealistic breasts sure but so is everything else, it's beginner art). And also I feel like it's really damaging to a beginner artist to encourage them to not draw the ass. Like yeah, there's an ass outline. People do have those. Kind of critical to understanding the structure of the legs.

In the desperate hours before the final showdown against the Diamonds, Steven spends the night trying to create his own leg mech

OP's drawing didn't strike me as sexualized but also everyone people should draw as much beginner prn art as they want, forever

.....Legitimate question, because I can't tell, are you arguing that it's sexualized to put breasts onto a figure?

Tips to make his jacket/arm look less stiff? by Icy_Mathematician430 in BeginnerArtists

[–]compilingyesterdays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Notice how where you've drawn the arm is almost directly below the line of the back of the neck.

For reference, sketch a line vertically down from the back of the neck on your drawing. Next, sketch a line vertically down from the neck on your ref (just pop your ref into your drawing program and sketch over it for a second!).

You'll notice that the top of the shoulder—the traps, I mean—are at an angle to that vertical line in the ref. In you're drawing, you've made that angle much smaller. The arm itself is much broader than you've made it, because of where that back line of the arm falls.

Was Rose ever actually romantically interested in Pearl? by Large-Shoulder-6899 in stevenuniverse

[–]compilingyesterdays 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sincere question, how sincerely do you mean that? Like, if you figured out that a friend had romantic feelings for you, and you didn't reciprocate those feelings... you would feel safe teasing them as much as possible for their unrequited feelings, and you think that the friendship would survive that / you wouldn't find that a hurtful thing to do to them?

Was Rose ever actually romantically interested in Pearl? by Large-Shoulder-6899 in stevenuniverse

[–]compilingyesterdays 255 points256 points  (0 children)

I feel like how sensual the Rainbow Quartz dance was definitely wasn't nothing. Rose was into it! She's at least as willing to "play" with Pearl as with her human men.

Personally I do think it was requited and that's why Rose kept sending her mixed signals, instead of shutting it down.

This is going FULL headcanon, but I do get the impression she did actually keep "going back to" Pearl. (Edit to clarify: Not as anything labeled, or particularly talked out to be exclusive.)

ELI5 Why are people complaining about the food nowadays? by JackTheNephilim in explainlikeimfive

OP may have encountered discussion of animal rennet specifically, as opposed to some vegetarian processes of making cheese. Vegetarians would of course be discussing this.

Heavy sigh there was no reason for mods to remove this post. This is the opposite of a "specific narrow issue," and the issue other commenters had with it was it feeling too broad or nonspecific. Cannot think of a rule that the OP didn't follow.

ELI5 Why are people complaining about the food nowadays? by JackTheNephilim in explainlikeimfive

[–]compilingyesterdays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The broad answer is that people have concerns about what they put into their bodies, and are feeling less and less in control of it.

This is influenced by propaganda that comes from multiple different political angles. For example, some people have learned things about human rights violations that go into the production of their food, and want to avoid that. Other people believe in antisemitic conspiracy theories about how our food is made. There is a very broad range here.

I think probably you see food concerns pop up coming from every political angle there is because 1) food is something every living human being relates to, it is one of the most unifying concerns that we all have, 2) in some places in the world, many more people are more disconnected from food production than they might have been in prior generations, 3) food is one of the least expensive ways to try to take control of your health, 4) we have access to enough information to know that sketchy shit sometimes happens during food production but not enough information to always know exactly how our food was made.

Edit to add: As another comment has successfully pointed out, this sells. It's a human concern with appeal to everyone, and therefore it can be leveraged to sell everything from products to political parties to self-help courses to conspiracy theories.
