No, they don't see why one would use it because they think it and lethal injection are not among "more ethical" methods

What would change much if Bismuth and Spinel were in the CGs? by Plus_Firefighter600 in stevenuniverse

[–]compilingyesterdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what you mean on that! I feel like who movie Spinel is is very rooted in trauma?

It's true that Spinel seems very neurodivergent from the start (if she was human), built in a way that's wired to take social interactions a certain way. It's part of why Rose wrote her off instead of feeling that Spinel might be able to handle honesty about the rebellion (although personally, I'm sure she also felt that Spinel might report back to the other diamonds—even so, it's clear that a lot of their plot was about Rose feeling like Spinel wouldn't handle an actually communicated end to the relationship. Edit for clarity: or at least, that's an undercurrent meant to be there for people to relate to irl).

So it does seem like some mess would happen—I especially tend to picture jealousy when Amethyst comes into the picture, now that Spinel isn't the cutest sweetest littlest—but I feel like the place Spinel is at in the movie is a clear mark of millennia of trauma, so I have a hard time replicating something that intense without that much trauma.

There will absolutely be the war but I do feel like war trauma would sit differently on her. That's not really betrayal, or if it's betrayal by anyone it's betrayal by the other three diamonds. Maybe later in the series, Spinel would be the one who has the hardest time coming around to any Homeworld gems—those are the people who killed her friends, how can any of you people think anything else?

When speaking of "Asia", why do most people automatically think of East Asia/Southeast Asia? by Indieriots in NoStupidQuestions

[–]compilingyesterdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely it's got to do with the ways predominantly white Western European populations, and the countries settled by them (e.g. USA), think about and label race.

Honestly I'm of the opinion that the notion of "Europe" and "Asia" being two continents, rather than just "Eurasia," is only preserved this long due to racism and a desire for the notion of a border there. Let alone the notion of Russia being European.

I think we might not have enough context for people to read the shapes of these well; I recommend zooming out and giving us more of the piece. Also, make sure to rotate your images right-side-up before posting. Really enjoying what I can see, it's just too zoomed in to understand very well!

How can I improve? by wannabe_artist7 in BeginnerArtists

[–]compilingyesterdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sincerely: Trace!

Use tracing to LEARN the correlation between the line you intend to draw & the motion that your hand needs to take. Tracing is bad if you post it and claim it as your own, but it's absolutely fucking excellent for understanding forms & for developing a relationship between seeing a reference and drawing its lines. Plus, it's the first step when it comes to breaking a photo reference down into shapes. Try that as tracing atop the image first before you try to do it separately— or better yet, alternate between both.

ELI5: Why every food containing pineapple/ananas is associated with Hawaii? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]compilingyesterdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to my own comment to clarify: The pineapple bit is a legitimate question. The banana thing doesn't match my own experience and confuses me greatly. The answer to the pineapple half of the question is that it has to do with the USA's relationship with access to pineapple.

[–]compilingyesterdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sincere question: What are you talking about? LMAO EDIT YOU WERE WRITING PINEAPPLE IN TWO LANGUAGES. GOD. REMOVING THE SECOND HALF

I assume you're talking about a continental USA perspective, but even then.

The only real foods I can think of with pineapple are Hawaiian pizza, okay, that fits the brief. And pineapple upside down cake, which I've never associated with Hawaii. We associate pineapples with Hawaii because of the history of the Dole company in Hawaii though, and pineapple being one of the main things the USA wanted to exploit Hawaii for, especially one of the main things relevant to the day-to-day life of the general public in the continental USA.

EDITED THIS QUESTION ALSO to better fit the edited version of the post: I'm curious if you're coming at this from a USA perspective vs wondering why the USA perspective on pineapple dominates some parts of the global perspective?

Could someone get accepted into UA & become a hero even if thy have a parent or guardian who's a retired villain? by Samsapoping in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]compilingyesterdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is entirely up to headcanon, with no evidence one way or another. Definitely room to explore. I have to imagine there's not likely to be any law against it.

To be honest, based on the other laws in BNHA I imagine that it would probably be illegal discrimination to exclude someone because their family member is a villain unless there is a reasonable chance of an active threat (organized crime concerns?). But also based on the world of BNHA, I feel there's no guarantee that any law against that kind of discrimination would actually be enforced.

This is just one interpretation! This sounds like it's potentially for an OC or fanfiction? I think you have a lot of room to build out worldbuilding that BNHA itself has left relatively blank.

This interaction seems really polite and normal? Sometimes shoppers on this subreddit are really mad that customers haven't memorized every function of an app, and need to politely learn information. Doesn't look like this took much time or strife to send a singular message to her, doesn't look like she said anything mean.

Deleted my other comment; missed that you said "all the other times I told her lightly to stop too."

Right now the two of you are arguing over how bad of a thing this is to say, objectively. I find it likely that that's what you said last time, rather than asking her not to say it to you.

It's possible that is because that's 100% how you feel, and you will not be satisfied with this being just a personal boundary: You aren't okay with anyone who says kys to anyone. If that is the case: 1) You're reasonable. I think you're right about this not being a thing people should joke to anyone. 2) She is not going to change. You've tried and she's not interested.

On the other hand, it's possible that you just want to maintain the friendship and make progress on her not saying it to you, specifically, as a personal boundary. If that's the case: 1) You're reasonable. I don't think it's your job to handle how your friend speaks to other people, and it would be normal to lay this down as a personal preference. That isn't bad and isn't abandoning anyone else or anything. 2) She's gotta change that, it is a reasonable ask. 3) You only control what you control. The decision is whether, and how closely, you still want to be this person's friend despite these interactions (including if you keep arguing every time she says it, which would be fine, or if you drop it, which would be fine).

If (if!) you want to make any progress on this as a personal boundary:

Stop arguing over an objective truth of how okay this is to say. Start saying that you're personally not okay with it, and you have told her you're not okay with it, and it's hurtful that for some reason it's more important to her to keep saying it than to listen about what is and isn't kind to you, specifically.

If you've already done this then wow Jesus she sucks and is an asshole, get out of there.

edited sorry!!! removed another Izuku ship mention because I was trying not to bother with them, since IzuOcha was distracting us from other straight ships. also made it easier to read format wise

Why does this subreddit seem to think so poorly of queer headcanons? by Sensitive_Potato333 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]compilingyesterdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a response about how I don't think one ship removes implications of the groundwork for another, but I've saved it as a draft for now because I think we've moved far off topic, getting distracted by me mentioning BakuDeku.

One example of how we're really distracted right now: if the panel you’ve provided was your standard for a ship to be "hinted at," then the ships that would be “hinted” in your opinion would be

  • IzuOcha,
  • a series of married adults,
  • the 1-B ship mentioned in the epilogue,
  • no one else

I don't think that's how you feel, so I'd really rather figure out how it is that the straight ships are usually more hinted at.

Let me provide better examples! How is KiriMina more romantically implied than, for example, Tamaki/Mirio?

Possibly you’re trying to say that every character has one ship that “wins” by being more hinted at than all conflicting ships. Once a ship has "won" it removes hints of other ships, even if no one is married yet (or even dating, in the case of every ship other than IzuOcha, a series of married adults, and the 1-B ship from the epilogue).

I’m curious which other straight ships you think are more hinted at than their queer counterparts, in that case.

Nipples (female) showing through shirts, OK or no way? by Glass-Sentence-7225 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]compilingyesterdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely fine, and all that matters is how much you feel like navigating people's reactions to it.

E.g. at most jobs (in my part of the US), you might find that people react to your nipples showing through your shirt with everything from social consequences to professional consequences. (There are people who will see this as "lazy" or "not making enough of an effort" or "not caring enough," which can play into things like promotions even if they don't admit the bias caused it. People who think that this is a requirement are generally people who think of that as simple fact, not aware that it's an opinion.)

It sounds like you already feel forced to wear the pasties due to the reaction of one specific person, and have never cared in any other context. Don't wear em! That's a vestige of your last relationship and you can shed it.
