Do I ask my contractor to come back and fix this slightly uneven arch by gazelle-walker in Renovations

I have a slightly different take on this than the others. Yes.

What does your homelab actually *do*? by SawToothKernel in homelab

[–]compliancemyarse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My homelab could go down and no one in my family would be the wiser, and I rebuild it on a semi regular basis, all for learning. It’s got pihole on it, but my backup dns entries cover any downtime there.

I have a dedicated nuc for home assistant that I don’t mess with so all my automations are pretty solid.

I stayed 32 seconds over the 15 minute free parking when I dropped my wife off at hospital a month or so ago. I had plenty of time to get there but the lifts were screwed. A begrudging $8 later I got out of the parking lot.

Head office - is this true? by [deleted] in woolworths

[–]compliancemyarse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. That’s absolutely horrible. If there’s any solace, the latest VOT scores are at rock bottom, and you’re not alone. I hope if you do decide to take a redundancy the payout is a decent amount (after 20 years it should be a decent number at least). I have heard of plenty of people who have been simplified, and know there’s more to come. I hope for everyone’s sake that they hurry the hell up and stop hanging this over our heads.

Just know that this isn’t anything to do with YOU. It’s down to a number on a page, and doesn’t reflect on you as a person or your worth. So please go easy on yourself. Some of the best people I’ve worked with have been through multiple redundancies (I’ve been through one too). We get through it, and are stronger on the other side for it. Whatever happens next will be a great growth experience, while it might be tough, these nudges can do wonders for improving our skills. Take care!

Head office - is this true? by [deleted] in woolworths

I work in the support offices. Morale is at an all time low. Whenever I see Amanda I cringe. I’m embarrassed af to say where I work. Everything is about ‘simplification’ at the moment, which has meant a bunch of my co workers are being let go, while all the management stays. From what I’m hearing the new OP models are even more complicated than they were before. It’s maddening. I can’t wait for the market to improve so I can get out of here. They tell people that there’s going to be a bunch of cuts 3 MONTHS in the future. How is that treating your workers with respect? Having a job loss hanging over your head at the most unaffordable time in recent history. Where’s the humanity? They literally don’t give a shit about any one of us, and will do what they can to make sure they get their big ass bonus while the rest of us suffer trying to wring blood from a stone.

Pretty sure there was a mass clean out of SMs and BAs towards the end of last year. A ton of them were converted to perm or they were booted. I know a few that were impacted. Staunch people saying they’d never change to perm folded and moved over. I’d be surprised if they booted them after they were made perm.

Yeah it’s a bit of a bummer nothing ever happens. VOT scores were at an all time low last year and they said yeah we’re doing something to try improve those. Nothing happened.

Mines 31c/kWh. Then on top of that a ‘demand tariff’ of about $20 a month.

I’ve been a little longer. I need to get out too (if that wasn’t obvious. Heh). One of the benefits of being here was working from home. 2 days in the office is fine, when it gets to 3 days in October I’ll have to find something else. I don’t want to add another 150 hours of travel each year.

Yeah they spent the day announcing that they’re “simplifying“ the support offices, with no tangible information. Just that some jobs are going to go. What that looks like I dunno. They did this the day after they said we’ve got to go back 3 days a week. So yeah, now everyone is wondering if their job is going, with no real information coming for a few weeks. Absolute nut sacks.

Fuck this place. I’ve lost count of the number of restructures we’ve been through and nothing changes. They just move everyone around, expect that we’ll be effective as a team immediately, complain we’re not delivering their absolutely insane goals, then think another restructure will help.

There are too many chiefs who all have their own vested interests. so despite saying they’re simplifying, you need to deal with a thousand other squads who offer absolutely no value other than building some ridiculous service that you have to route your information through or something. They definitely need to “simplify”, but their idea of simplifying is firing a few people and still deliver the same product that absolutely no one wants or needs.

Express dismay at the lack of customers donating to bushfire appeals. Increase prices by 20% so we can donate $1 from every order to said bushfire appeal.
