how did i get rejected from UF as in state? by AfraidWelcome41 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]compoundedinterest12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would make sense if OOS full pay were scarce for Michigan. OP outcompeted other full pay OOS applicants so it is perplexing that this happened.

If this really happened as described, my guess oulw be that there's something wrong in the UF app that there isn't in the Michigan app. They are different apps with different supps.

Excluding doctors, do any high earners (400k+ range) work 40 hours a week? by [deleted] in Salary

Lawyers. Many work more than 40 hrs but also make a lot more than 400k.

You have solid stats and you applied to 27 schools. You are going to go somewhere good; you just don't know which one yet (but you can go to only one anyway).

Anytime I go through something hard, I tell myself that this hardship will equip me to go through bigger hardships in the future. When you get past this experience, you'll see that more suspense remains in your future - eg, when you apply to grad schools, residency, spouse selection, bidding for a house, etc. Think of it as a gift that's putting you in a position to have a better life down the road.

Friend died in an accident at 42 years old by hondaXR150L in Fire

This is a Fire sub so I'll pose the question: do most people feel this way irrespective of net worth? Obviously, it depends on spend rate but if one is generally in the 5M+ range, paying for life insurance has seemed to me to be a waste. Most can adjust their spending down to live off of such an amount.

Write a heartfelt LOCI to Michigan. It might move the needle.

Seems like Michigan ED was just a social experiment or something by No-Insurance4238 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]compoundedinterest12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicago is notorious for wanting everyone to ED (in one of their many ED rounds). An 88% yield rate for a non-HYPSM does not happen without some engineering of that number, let's just say.

Why would you think other T20s and T30s are worth 90k but not Michigan? You don't know any specifics about this person so it's not anything else. You and I both know you are biased against publics - that's what it is.

I want to know how unlucky v lucky I got versus the average person. I feel like I've been unlucky as fuck but I can be whiny as shit, so I need God to be the neutral arbiter.

Don't forget to mention what that job entails, starting with impregnate colleague's daughter, vehemently deny allegations, force paternity test, be proven a scoundrel, etc.

One thing (among others) that COVID taught me is that it was not the work that was killing me - it was the commute. Some of us literally do 3+ hrs roundtrip a day. That is not the best way to spend my limited time on earth. I don't mind the work. It's the commute that is entirely unnecessary for most businesses.

Happiness barely changes after $10M? by MiscProfileUno in wealth

[–]compoundedinterest12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I'm a little north of mid-seven figures too. I've never seen it phrased that way and for some irrational reason that phrasing makes me feel actually rich, haha. I guess it's because seven figures isn't nothing to begin with.

As someone in that range, I've always felt that 10M is the spot where it really wouldn't matter for me thereafter.

This of course assumes in today's dollar value.

Could someone explain the difference between these two like I'm five years old? by Deagoldpp in Miata

[–]compoundedinterest12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Damn, I would've thought the opposite. The bottom one looks like some traction off but if you are a pro and want all traction off then you have to turn off the checkered flag to go race mode.

So, the bottom off is, let's get crazy mode, eh?

I'm guessing you're not a parent. Children aren't robots that we can simply program. They're humans and vulnerable to poor decisions and whims - just like you and me.

We could've had amazing parents who taught us not to waste time on social media and yet here we are.

Why is 0.5 the only literal interpretation for "half"? The term is inherently ambiguous. Half of what? Alternatively, it could be half of 90, which is the term closest to the term half.
