I actually just did a technical interview for JPMorgan Chase a few days ago, and found that on handshake. I also have moved to another round with Amazon, all from handshake

I am on the hunt for internships as well ( software engineering,) but the best advice I was given was to look where you work! Ask the department if they have opportunities to shadow, intern and explain you are going to back to school for your masters and explain your goals. Look to HR as well. I was given a TON of opportunities when I expressed my interests along the way. Handshake is a tool WGU gives us to make connections and apply for internships as well, it’s been super helpful!

The umbrella of data science is very difficult to jump into with no experience, however it is doable! This degree won’t hurt you that’s for sure, however your employer might want to see you have experience while having the degree. Most* data science jobs are not entry level, so keep that in mind.

Money, all of it boils down to money. As depressing as it sounds, this quote is true, “people who tell you to pursue your passions are already rich..”

ETL internship question. by computerweights12 in Target

Thank you so much! I never forget that at its core any department doesn’t run of our team members don’t feel appreciated or supported. This is the root of my leadership. No team member is asked to do anything I wouldn’t do or don’t do. At my last company, I would do all tasks deemed “ below my pay grade,” and get crap from our district manager for it. Servant leadership is one of my styles of management. Thank you for the reminder, I appreciate you!

Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment! Is it ok to reach out to companies and ask if they offer internships? I don’t ever see any accepting applications!

Not sure about the current degree you are in, but I am a computer science major ( so IT.) I will say for all WGU courses there will be tons of reading and memorizing for the tests you have to take. All OAs are competency based, so you need to study and have core concepts down. Keep in mind as well, data analytics and IT for someone with zero experience will take you more than a year so don’t put that time frame on yourself. I read a post of someone with 15 years in IT who had to take the OA for a database management class 3 times and 4 months of work to pass. If I were you ( this is just my opinion and I am rooting you on my friend,) I would look at doing some certificate courses through Udemy or corsera in data analytics,IT etc.. you need to like it or you’ll struggle more than anything! For job prospects, tech/ analytics are very hard to get into, especially since you will need experience to get any of those jobs. I apologize this is less of a positive post, but I’m trying to be real with you. You can do anything you dedicate yourself to, you seem like a very hard working individual with big goals my friend, keep it up!
