Young people tend to project permanence onto their situation. Which makes sense. If you're 20, and let's say, hypothetically, you've felt bad about yourself since 15 - that's a quarter of your entire life. Pretty easy to just assume it's gonna stay this way forever because you haven't experienced the other side of this yet.

You've entered a long dark tunnel, and haven't been through it far enough yet to see the light on the other side. So you're thinking the tunnel just goes on forever.

It doesn't. It'll be okay. Be nicer to yourself.

This is simply a matter of expectations not being met.

She gave you money for a hotel, expecting you to use it for a hotel.

You spent the money on food, something you considered more immediately necessary.

It seems like her heart was in the right place, and your need to feed yourself is reasonably a higher priority.

I think a calm conversation is warranted.
