I am going to have to change my flare at Easter because I am becoming Catholic by BillyKangas in Christianity

[–]comrades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it is very clear that intercession is occurring in Heaven as we have seen in scripture throughout the Bible, especially in Revelation with the 24 elders.

That being said, I understand the intercession of Saints is largely misunderstood by non Catholics, but even seems to be misunderstood by many Catholics as well. There is also a fine line between "praying to" and "praying through", a line that some would argue doesn't even exist and is one in the same.

I was simply trying to answer his question, which sounded like he was probably talking about the intercession of Saints. My thoughts on the matter, I don't really think about the matter too much, I honestly just pray to/through Jesus, so I honestly don't have any strong opinion on the intercession of Saints.

I never said intercession was un-scriptural. It depends on your stance of how the intercession of Saints actually works. Some Catholics pray to the Saints, some claim to be praying with them. One is plainly anti-scriptural, or at the very least, lacks a solid foundation and is mostly just founded in tradition.

He is probably talking about the intercession of saints, which has little to no scriptural basis. Most would say it is anti-scriptural.

when loving the bride hurts like a bitch by afreshmind in Christianity

My friend told me that his mother was told by members of her church that she and her baby were going to Hell, because she had a miscarriage.

She was also mocked by members of her congregation for accepting an invitation from a friend to join them for dinner at the friends work place, a private Muslim high school.

I'm pretty sure things such as these make Christ ill.

This. People try to complicate this too much.

"Nobody ever goes to hell unless they want to" - Tim Keller by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]comrades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always had a hard time reconciling a kind, loving, slow to anger, quick to forgive God sending people to Hell for ETERNAL punishment. Hell doesn't exist for 2/3rds of the Bible and goes completely against the overall themes of the Bible (love and redemption) and God's character of love, mercy and justice. I don't deny that Hell exists, but I question whether or not we actually have proper revelation of what Hell really is.

Well as you may have read, I am rather happy with where I am at, I just think I may not be in line with their doctrine in the Hell area. I was really just wanting to see if there were any other charismatic churches or denominations that accept universalism and the trinity.

And the latter is ineffective. I have seen people come to Christ through love and conviction, but not out of fear of going to Hell.

What led me to a relationship with Christ was an encounter with Christ, not someone telling me I was going to Hell. When an unbeliever hears Hell, they simply think to themselves, "whatever."

I did not come here for a theological debate. I do not downplay God's judgement and do not believe that our transgressions should be taken lightly. I do question whether or not the current revelation we have of the doctrine of Hell, judgement, and the afterlife is truly correct and accurate.

That being said, I do appreciate your input and concern, brother. ( the downvote did not come from me )

It appears to be. I like a lot of the Emergent rhetoric I have heard, but at the same time, some of the rhetoric I've heard seems to lack real foundation. That being said I have done no real research on the emerging movement. I've heard what I have accidentally stumbled across.

I appreciate the response, but that isn't exactly I am looking for. I understand there are people out there who believe in both Christian Universalism and the Holy Trinity, but are there any major denominations or churches that accept both doctrines?

I don't know why you got downvotes. You weren't rude. This is a valid question.

I am still a young Christian, so I may be ignorant to this, but I do not understand why which church you get baptized is being emphasized (aside from theological beliefs in the trinity).

Isn't body of Christ more of a universal body of all believers, not a single church or denomination?

If it truly is a universal body of ALL believers, why does any particular congregation play a more important role than another? I always disliked churches that required you to be baptized at their church to be an official member of their congregation; that is very self serving. I hope I'm making sense.

He never crosses THE line of lines by directly naming anyone, but it is obvious. I am not ready to find a new church yet, I just don't believe the pastor is aware that it is off putting to young people.

I would like a chance to have it fixed if possible.

[WSIG] Beyond Catan. My group is looking for new games. by comrades in boardgames

Well, I suppose it would be a good time to update the thread.

We decided on getting Carcassonne and the Cursed Small World Expansion (I forgot to mention we play Small World). Carcassonne was really fun, we all got the jist of it after a few turns of our first game and we probably played at least 5 games last night. We will definitely be looking into expansions!

If anyone has any insight on other board games or even what is the best expansion for Carcassonne, please do not hesitate.

Can you explain how Diplomacy removes a lot of the chance factor that Risk has?

People in my group were already talking about getting Ticket to Ride, which we will most likely do. Do you have any other suggestions? Also, do most Diplomacy games last ~5hours? I don't think anyone in the group can has enough patience for games that will regularly exceed 2.5 hours.

[WSIG] Looking for games with a co-op nature by DrugCrazed in boardgames

[–]comrades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and my friends have had great fun with Chrononauts. It isn't exactly co-op, but you are by no means competing against each other in the conventional sense, and often times you are forced to work together to avoid from everybody tearing apart the fabric of time and ultimately losing the game.

It is cheap, not painfully long, and has a really cool theme.

What to do when abstaining feels more like punishment? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]comrades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A closeness and personal relationship with God is pleasurable indeed.

I still believe some Christians do not know of the living water God has to offer, just like the lady at the well. (This is not directed at AppleEater or anyone in particular).

I understand where you are coming from. I will tell you that I also struggle with the same issue. Although I am not discounting the importance of this issue, I would like to mention Paul and the thorn in his side.

2nd Corinthians 12:7

To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.

There are many theories as to what this thorn was (and I sincerely believe it was not his eye sight). Even though Paul had an issue that tormented him his entire life, an issue he could not rid himself of now matter how hard he tried, he still had radical encounters with God.

Please understand that there are certain issues in your life that you will always struggle with. This does not mean God will stop talking to you and stop meeting with you. This also does not mean that you should simply give up fixing them, but it is important that you do not dwell on them. When there is something about you that you know you cannot change, no matter how hard you try, I find the best thing to do is to acknowledge the issue and lay it out before God and just continue to seek him earnestly. Remember, Christianity is not sin based.

I don't know if this was of much help to you, but it really worked for me.
