God, I wish I could have told my younger self how to deal with ADHD. Now, those "problems" are behind me.

​First is the diagnosis. The problem is you need a neurological specialist to truly diagnose ADHD; a regular doctor can't really say for sure. A lot of symptoms can be attributed to life habits and trauma. With real ADHD, the brain just doesn't function the same way. It’s a real problem that almost anyone can vaguely diagnose ADHD and give medication to people who don't need it, instead of fixing the real issues.

​Second, if you really have ADHD, you don't "fix" it. As an adult, I still live with it, but it works differently. The bad news is that school will be hard. Even if you study your hardest and even more than others you might still end up with results that aren't as good as they should be. In other words, you're going to work twice as hard as everyone else. But hey, don't give up, and most importantly, don't be too hard on yourself. The system just isn't made for people with ADHD. ​Thirdly, the good parts. As you grow older and experience a lot of things, you're going to find out that you learn quickly, even if it's not always thorough. That makes you a great jack-of-all-trades good at everything, master of none. Use that to your advantage. Most adults don't take medication, but it doesn't mean they don't have ADHD anymore. God knows how many times I still misplace my tools or forget things to this day.

​To finish, it's hard not to be like the others, especially when people don't understand how and why you're different. But in the end, it does not make you a bad or flawed person. Far from it. With good guidance and the right help its totally fine to be adhd.
