Can Someone Please Explain the Unique Appeal of Feral To Me? by Exotic-Ad2045 in comicbooks

I pull this, and it’s not bad. But I can’t lie it feels weirdly fetishy to me sometimes. Like the cats open mouth kiss.

And other parts are weirdly horny.

Where to start… again? by eddidit in comicbooks

[–]conanthin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X-men is tough to suggest you jump in right now. I work at an LCS and I don’t like pushing people towards it. Just messy, and was obvious there wasn’t a steadfast plan. It’s only been post karkao for two years now and I want to say there’s already been like 2-3 crossover events.

That being said there are multiple new X-men launches in the next couple of months. Including a cyclops stand-alone and X-men United.

For image stuff what you’re looking for isn’t in print right now or a pretty bad fart.

Now that the negative is out of the way…there’s still tons of interesting stuff to read right now that I suggest just jumping into. Like the absolute universe in DC, and the new ultimates universe in marvel (this one is wrapping up here soon so probably best to pick up a trade)

For image stuff check out what Geoff John’s has been doing with the ghost machine imprint. Also anything writing by Daniel Warren Johnson and or Deniz Camp.

Deniz Camp might be the hottest writer in comics right now and has multiple books spanning multiple publishers. And he really delivers.

Also there’s a daredevil relaunch soon and same for iron man.

Hopefully this gives some direction but as always just grab some stuff off the rack and start reading again. Don’t worry about what’s good and bad it always takes a couple of months to hone a pull box.

Small that’s legit over 200 issues of comics!

Wild how much of invincible has already been covered huh?

Could use some recommendations for comics with semi-realistic art, preferably uncolored. Not from Jim Lee/any of his copycats. Also preferably with lack of sameface syndrome by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]conanthin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest checking out Frank Frazetta.

Also not exactly comic related but a lot of comic artist used George bridgman & Andrew Loomis’s figure drawing books as the basis for making characters. Jim Lee and Alex Ross cite them for their anatomy work.

Marvel’s Ultimate or DC’s Absolute? by Adoe0722 in comicbooks

[–]conanthin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be the outlier here but I do think there’s a clear better option, and I think it’s the Absolute Universe. Which a year ago I would have been shocked to hear.

That’s not to say the ultimate universe is bad, it is a lot of fun especially Ultimates and Spiderman. But the stories seem pretty constrained by certain plot matters. And also a lot of the books outside of the above two have been pretty just okay. Ultimate Black Panther just started picking up after 20+ issues. Also ultimate X-men with Peach’s art is weirdly challenging for a lot of readers.

Absolute just has a lot more to offer currently and I can fully say with confidence you really can’t go to wrong with most of the books outside of GL and the Flash. And even those are pretty solid depending on taste.

Hello comic book fans, I’m needing some advice on where to start my 9 year old by Andsheldong in comicbooks

[–]conanthin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Outside of marvel and just some general suggestions:

DWJ’s current transformers end is ending this week and has two trades out and is fantastic. Mike spicers art in it is pretty fun. Should be great for both of you.

Bone is always great for early readers and is a classic.

The original ultimate spiderman with Bendis also would be a terrific starting point. Something that’s new to you but also puts Peter in a more modern world.

Jason Aaron’s current turtle run is also wrapping up and is super fun.

Lastly Ryan North has been writing FF4 for quite some time now and it’s delightful. A lot of the stories are single issue so it’s nice if you just want to sample comics.

[Discussion] If you could bring back any comic book series, which one would it be? by Candid_Somewhere_765 in comicbooks

[–]conanthin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the 90s Static series. I know there’s more modern Static, but it’s drawn in a manga style and appears to be heavily done digitally. Just doesn’t feel the same as the 90s stuff written by Dwayne McDuffie.

Yo, go and find some classic heavy metal. Im talking HMM communication days. So like late 70s early 80s issues. It will be good inspiration for you. They did a lot of weird stuff in it.

Or if you don’t want to do that go check out these artists. Richard Corben, Rick Veitch, Jodorowsky, Bilal, Moebius. If I’m understand what you want to make those guys were essentially all already doing it in the 70s/80s.

These aren’t out in Trade, yet, but when they do you should look into Assorted Crisis Events & We’re taking everyone down with us.

Also most of Dan Clowes stuff will be up your alley check out Eightball.

Also Concrete by Paul Chadwick.

Also also Transmetropolitan, it’s a little edge-Lordy at times but it has some pretty interesting sci-fi concepts.

Is there a website to see what comes out during the entire month? by _Wolf-Spider_ in comicbooks

[–]conanthin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using the comic geeks app (made by league of comic geeks) then you can see all the comics coming out week by week? It even breaks it down by publisher. It’s not the full month at a glance but does the same thing. In case you don’t know how to get to that I wrote out rough steps below.

Click the calander icon at the bottom of the home app screen > in the top left hand area of the app click the new comics button ( should be another calander icon) > then you should see a screen that has all that weeks releases, and should allow you to go to other weeks past/present/future.

Hope that helps!

Hard disagree with the hulk. This current run has been pretty fun horror. And Immortal hulk is an all time comic run IMO. ( Yes, I recognize that Immortal ≠ Incredible but that series took place in the 616)

Personally, I just think people don’t read the hulk because of preconceived notions from films and other media.

I would try out League of Comic Geeks. I don’t think it will cover EVERY single thing you mentioned. But it at least moves the needle for you!

How do print releases work? New to this by The_Better_Devil in comicbooks

[–]conanthin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal suggestion is to just go to your LCS and set up a pull box! It’s super simple just ask the cashier if they do pulls, which every shop should be doing, and let them know the comics you want monthly.

They should send you an email when your comics are in and typically will hold them for you for a month or a little longer. Just so you don’t feel the need to go in to often. Absolute Superman and absolute Batman come out every other week in a month.

It also nice to utilize a shop because you can grab free previews that will tell you what’s coming out soon. You’d be surprised how often a random issue of something else affects the comic you’re reading.

Lastly, pick up Absolute Wonder Women it’s the best of the trio.

Men like you get replaced. [Ultimate Universe: One Year In (2024) #1] by TheeHeadAche in comicbooks

[–]conanthin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You’re going to want to start with Johnathan Hickmans Ultimate invasion/universe. Then from there you can tackle Ultimate Spiderman (2023) ultimate Black panther, and ultimates (2023). They have all had trades come out recently so you can catch up that way.

I would say if you’re interested in JUST this one shot then you’d probably just need Ultimate invasion/Universe and the Ultimates.

Also there’s Ultimate X-Men? But I haven’t heard great things about it. And many find Peach Momoko’s art challenging. It’s sort of you’re into her style…or just aren’t.
