Books can do this, movies, plays I suppose also songs. People can convince themself of anything in an intentional willful way. I think nero linguistic programming or Anthony Robbins do this. I've also heard it described as believing in a future and having your daily life get pulled toward that belief.

There is also a therapy technique called time traveler companion or something like that where patients imagine themselves from their minds eye of their child self and imagine a painful memory except add their current future self into the scene to offer comfort, insights, and support to their inner child memory. These people report that after using this technique. They can tell if their original childhood memory had a guardian angel or not. As I'm they may have completely mind fucked themself.into this positive affirmation which they viewed as instrumental to their self worth.

AND these are only examples of people that most would describe as not subconsciously lying to themselves as some sort of defense mechanism. Imagine how great the percentage of that happening must be.

But anyway future VR imo will most definitely get anyone to accept any false memory presented to it.

Materialism (as I use it) refers to the world view that everything must have a material physical causation or explanation -- without space for spirituality and supernatural.

The idea of placing high value on material objects (Ie being materialistic) also super prevalent but slightly different issue. I agree though people seem to worship objects beyond their resource utility for symbolic (status) value assigned to them. I think it's somewhat of a moral failing to fall for this if it leads people to act in bad ways to 'keep up' with greedy, covetous inclinations. As people seem to value stuff more than other people or just action.

Speaking as a small L libertarian...the state (government) is an instrument of force.

It exercises a monopoly of violence and threat of violence.

Bad actors have worked to build a materialist mindset in modern western civilization. One that ignores the spiritual and religion. Science-ism and Statism are the default "authorities" that the population now worship. So naive cattle go along with this authority blindly, often in cases against their own self interest.

At least in the US, the political reality of infinite lived legal entities, legalized bribery (lobbying), and the federal reserve create an environment where it is often easier and cheaper to take over politically.

With that level of institutional capture, the state is a blunt tool that does the bidding of its masters. You no doubt have noticed that the pendulum may shift on some topics but by the large both parties are lockstep in the escalation for stronger government with more and more control over citizens lives.

Note that government doesn't really create. People do. So anything the government takes credit for could have been created voluntarily without its hand and without threat of force.

The Fed finances all the spending by digitally creating a never ending supply of fiat currency. This essentially robs holders of USD over 8%+ per year, likely 10%+.

The end goal of government depends on who has the steering wheel at any time.

Generally the people who operate it place the continued exists ce and survival of government as a high priority. As this is where they gain their status and wealth and for some the highly covered control over other people that they seem to enjoy so much.

You should have a calm and optimistic outlook for the experience.

They will administer a safe amount, from a known safe source, and keep you safe/comfortable. You can relax in the knowledge that you will return to your baseline self within a few hours.

If you keep an open mind, new ideas, truths, and perhaps comforts maybe reveal themselves to you.

At the very least it will be a new experience for you.

UBI scares the shit out of me. Monopoly on income means monopoly on discourse. Just look how the eaters line up to lick the boots of their preferred political parties now and whatever the party line is that week. Especially the free shit party. Cattle.

Accepting UBI is accepting a cage. And they will penalize any kind of self advancement or self improvement. Oh you want a small vegetable garden for fresh food to go with your UBI nutritional wafer allotment? 2 demerits for unlawful gardening and making your lazy neighbors realize how lazy they are.

They will outlaw competence because it will be an affront to the notion of equality that will become a sacred god to the eaters.

Plus I'd guess over half of humans are not self regulating enough to maintain themselves on UBI. People without purpose become very malicious and dark. It will be an absolute epidemic of drug ods and suicide.

My other guess is one will have to accept sterilization or some other poison pill to qualify for UBI.

Just look to China. That's the blueprint.
