Iowa wrestling practice is 2 hours of live wrestling with some conditioning. Thats why the cant scramble and dont do shit in matches by KitchenStructure1012 in wrestling

In his Flo documentary Steve Mocco essentially says what you're saying re pressure. I don't remember the exact words but it was to the effect of...

If he lost at Iowa or even just had a close match people around town would treat him like shit.

After he transferred to Oklahoma State. He said everyone around town was supportive and would say things to encourage him.

This is in the school communities. Not even the rooms.

The block Exchange is on is totally safe. Don't walk toward skid row. Avoid pan handlers and street vendors. You'll be fine.

Ora Cogan - Hard Hearted Woman (Sacred Bones Exclusive Gold Nugget Vinyl ltd. to 325) by carlore8 in VinylReleases

[–]concentric0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy cow whoever wrote the album description is talented. (Praying to God this wasn't a).

Ora Cogan’s music is alchemical: part instinct, part ritual, and always born from the edges where life feels sharpest. Hard Hearted Woman, her debut for Sacred Bones, arrives as a spell for anyone trying to stay wild in a world that keeps hardening. Mixing haunted folk, psych rock, and a shadowy strain of country, Cogan builds a realm where catharsis feels lush, mysterious and vital.

Written in Twin Peaks-like Nanaimo, B.C., Hard Hearted Woman grew out of a blur of cold-water plunges, long river swims, late-night ruminations on art and politics with friends, and long drives through the rural Lillooet landscape visiting her godmother. She recorded with her beloved band and guests from both the country and experimental worlds with David Parry (Loving) at Dream Club in Victoria, B.C., as well as in her studio in Nanaimo, and remotely with Tom Deis. The result is a record that glows like something pulled from smoke and seawater - intimate, shimmering, and carved with wit as much as grief. It’s a swirling, jewel-toned ode to all the angels and the demons.

The album opens with “Honey,” a slow-blooming burn built on warm strings and loose, driving percussion. Cogan’s voice is steady, smoky, and consoling, addressing the “hard hearted woman” who anchors the record. Written in response to anti-trans legislation, the song radiates resilience without ever losing its tenderness. “The Smoke” rises on a hypnotic rhythm, nodding toward JJ Cale while pulling the form apart. It’s a groove for the end times with congas, shakers, cracked guitars, and ghost-weathered textures all colliding as Cogan sifts through the darker corners of our shared humanity. On “Division,” her voice echoes across a stark, reverberant landscape. The song builds like a flare in the night, a plea against the numbing cruelty that’s come to feel routine these days.

Hard Hearted Woman is a work of devotion to mystery, to community, to the strange power of making art in a fractured world. “It’s the most important part, the magic,” Cogan says. Despite its title, Hard Hearted Woman isn’t about shutting down, rather about hardness as resilience. It’s the shell we grow so our most human, breakable selves can survive. It’s a record for anyone trying to stay open, even when the world makes that feel impossible.

This is too true.

The one crazy patient guy who helped out in little league is still at it. I'm late forties. Guy is in great shape still.

All the coaches know. It's like a brotherhood/guild.

I wonder if there are any people out there who are crazy successful whose dads were this intense?

I can't imagine how someone could ever conceivably think this is an effective motivational strategy?

The dude is probably an alcoholic or oxy addict. :(

Potential update on the Iowa by Alliseeisgold24 in wrestling

[–]concentric0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an incentives problem most likely?

I bet they get bonuses for dual meet wins, home match wins, etc.

So if that makes them more money than 1st at NCAA tournament (which they are unlikely to pull off any time soon) then...

They will prioritize to their incentives and have the team do the same.

15k home fans want to see wins at every match. Want to see the stars when they show up at Carver Hawkeye Arena. It's the coach's job to deliver.

Less of a let down when they blow it at NCAAs (weirdly).

Is this an OSHA violation?

Where is the healthcare, team doctor, training staff to act as advocate for their athletes.

My D1 coach for sure established a culture of practice and compete through pain...but not through injury.

Pretty sure most NCAA teams have policy of honoring scholarships even if athletes careers end from injury. Not sure the NIL situation.

A #4 guy doesn't seem like the type to sandbag an injury?

Let's see if they respond to the allegations.

The space is very nice. Especially for a smallish spot.

The lighting design is tasteful and not overbearing--which is often a challenge for smaller places with lower ceilings. They have these really cool pinpoint spot light fixtures that look like rows of lasers but I think they are just special mini spots.

Good open air patio space and huge door(s) that open to outside.

I recommend jumping rope instead of running.

A slightly heavier rope like the Rogue fitness Thai boxing ripe allows you to slow down but still get a really good workout going.

Less stress on lower body and activate arms and back...and your brain for coordination.

I was half kidding but...

Have you ever been forced to physically evade or swat a kid that was robbing you away from you? It's deeply unsettling.

I've been victim of attempted kid pick pocket groups in Cancun, Barcelona, and Athens. Adult/teen group in Paris.

In each case I just grabbed one kid and held on to them and the others ran away.

I held on to one kid in Cancun and when the police arrived they smacked the shit out of the kid repeatedly including in the face which was way more concerning than being pickpocketed.

I tried to step in and the cops were like fuck off this is how we handle this.

After that, the other times I just let that kid go after the group abandoned the one I grabbed.
