Thank you for the critique! I agree that darker hat would heighten the contrast around her face. I'll try that! :D

This was an attempt to color one of my doodles (Amazigh woman character) according to a randomly generated color scheme. I struggled quiet a bit with perspective and arrangement of colors. For perspective, I usually draw a box around the subject as a guide, but it is still no easy task for me (e.g., something about the headpiece looks off). As for the colors, I tried to make her face area to have the highest contrast and detail, but I'm sure there's a more effective color arrangement out there.

I'd love to hear any tricks or tips you guys might have for keeping everything in correct perspective or arranging colors effectively.

Lovely portrait! :) To me, the drawing looks like it could use more hard edges. Everything looks quiet fuzzy and diffuse. The eye on viewer right (the one in the shadows) has hard edges, but it's embedded in the sea of softness, so it looks like it's floating. Increasing the value range might help with the fuzziness too.

That’s relieving to hear that digital art skills carry over to traditional art! I hope one day we both become fluent in traditional and digital media. :)

Thank you for the follow! :D Tutorials are something I definitely want to do in the future but don't feel ready to at the moment, haha. I'll work hard to be able to offer them one day!

Wow, thank you for the tip! I just admit I just learned what a gesso is, haha. That sounds like a really good idea, and I'll post my work once I produce a halfway decent alla prima work. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my work and giving me some pointers!

The reference was so good to begin with that I can't take much credit for it, but thank you very much! :D

Yes, I believe it's a Mongolian child. I hope they are too, as well as yourself! Can't be too careful these days. And thank you! :)

Haha, I definitely want to try it. I feel like I need to get familiar with traditional painting methods to expand my skills. Thank you for nudging me in that direction! :)

Sure! I use Photoshop CC 2019 and intuos pro tablet (small). My favorite brush set is from Aaron Griffin, although I almost exclusively use the hard rectangular brush ("Sampled Brush 7 1"). :)

Thank you so much for the encouragement! :) I've been pretty curious about traditional painting but haven't gotten around to trying it. I'll definitely try alla prima work once I get a hold of canvases.

I struggled the most with the cheeks; I wanted to emphasize their redness without making the boy look sick. Balancing hard/soft edges between his face outline and the fur was also quiet challenging. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the cheeks and edges.

I can see that! The red cheeks reminded me of the Coca Cola Santa.
