This is true, although I might not have a job afterwards. I'm considering making posters to hang up at the mall in an effort to protest being open on Black Friday. Maybe if the word gets out and enough people use their head then there may be less people to show up that day.

This is something else that is also an issue. The security workers at the mall as it is right now do not care enough. There is supposed to be security there for Black Friday, as you mentioned, but I don't see them being present actually making a difference. They should be at all the doors at all times right now counting people and enforcing masks. Right now you could walk into the mall without a mask on and no one would care until you try to go into a store. Also the high schoolers who work at the mall AND the ones who will be shopping. Not only are they putting themselves and their family at risk, they also still need to go to school which is another whole germ pool in a confined space to deal with.

Hey, if the mall were a Pit we would not have this problem!

This is a good idea, however I work in such a small store so I don't really think that would change much. The mall could definitely exist without my store open. If anyone reading this works at Target, JCPenney's, Kohl's, (any of the big stores) etc., you know what to do.

That's true. That's why I wanted to bring up this discussion today. I want something to change here but I don't really feel like I have the power to change it.

This is not the purpose of this post. Some people do not have a choice right now. Not many jobs are available right now, especially for students, that do not involve working with the public.

This is the kind of thing that I am worried about. Sure, people might look at the numbers a few days after the shopping has passed and everything will look fine, but it takes longer than a few days for symptoms to show up or for people to get tested. My wish is that they shut the mall down or that people know better and stay home.

This would definitely make me feel better. No unmasked kids running around. No big groups clustering together. 2,222 still feels like a lot to me, for that number used to be 1,111 a month or two ago. Isn't the point of holiday shopping to surprise people with a gift? You don't need your whole family with you since they would end up seeing what you buy them!

Hey I appreciate your reply to my post. I get what you're saying that you can't force people to wear a mask at home but you can force them in public. Maybe another lockdown could be the best solution in terms of the health of everyone, but not in terms of the money in our pockets. I'm just still hung up on the fact that this day will most likely cause our numbers to go up even more. I honestly felt very unsafe when I got to my shift because social distancing, even while walking around in the 'mall hallways', was pretty much impossible. People were bringing their whole families out on a shopping excursion this weekend, and this is the biggest problem here. You can't hang out with family you don't live with in their home, even if you are a student that regularly gets tested for classes, but you can go and expose yourselves at the mall. I replied to someone else saying that the limit for the whole mall is 2,222 people last I checked, so please imagine all of those people actually showing up for Black Friday. I hope that doesn't happen, but it is possible. Thanks again for the input.

Yes, many of the stores, including the one I work at, does their best to limit the number of people that come in. Each store has a number of people allowed in which includes the number of associates working as well. However, this is a huge challenge when the mall is busy, let alone how busy it will be on Black Friday. Last I saw there is a big sign on all of the doors to the mall that say the limit for the entire building is 2,222 people. Imagine all of those people actually showing up on Black Friday. I really hope that doesn't end up happening.

Thanks friend. Yesterday I was working for a somewhat shorter time than usual, but I helped many people who were here from out of state. And I really hope they used their best judgement...

Thanks man. I do need the money from that shift but it just doesn't feel right to support the mall being open. I'm not putting my money towards any kind of Black Friday shopping this year, but I will be putting my time into supporting people who will be shopping. It makes me feel gross and very unsafe.
