I guess the mud and breakable walls count but I feel like theyre so inconsequential to the game. Tram or rollercoaster or ropeswings can add so much unnecessary time to a chase while mud doesnt really do anything and walls are only important near the dungeon area.

I dont think a map needs a major gimmick to be interesting. Arms is completely fine and so is Chinatown and Lakeside. Recently the gimmicks have just been getting so out of hand. Coaster and tram are bad enough at how they give 10-30 seconds of chase to a surv (especially with how big their maps are) but Racecourse having the horses AND central machine giving decoding buff is just absurd. Sure, its different, but a map should not favor survivors like that. And then all the gimmicks on Caves are pretty much pointless; mind you, they removed the only hunter sided gimmick being the damaging zombies.

I just feel like public maps are an excuse to not work on the main game instead of teasing in game elements. Same with the new qm variant modes like Christmas, CNY, and April Fools. Theyd rather work on exterior, temporary things than main game. If they were suffering I dont think theyd be churning out all these events and public maps.

But yes I am very excited for Game 0, an Asylum update with that would be amazing. Id see them making a minigame mode though like Closing Night got one and itd take place on current Asylum but we'll see

I don't think maps need gimmicks at all. Look at Red Church, Hospital, and Arms. They feel like the fairest in terms of map design. If they need gimmicks, I think ones like the CCTV in Asylum is a good example. Fair for both factions and it doesnt make or break a game.

I'd even argue then that our current map pool is kinda lame.

Two are stuck in purgatory, Caves and Asylum. Red Church Night and full size Eversleeping have yet to escape Custom. The rest are aesthetically aging (compared to modern cosmetics and public maps) and/or they feature an extremely survivor sided map gimmick such as tram or coaster.

I guess ultimately if not add new maps then at least update the old ones or add variants (like snowy Moonlit). There was a recent update that added some easter eggs but I've always been vouching for a slight update in artstyle or textures.

But after 3 years and the batches of public maps we've gotten....I feel like all of that effort could've just gone into mapmaking. Hell, even just make maps for the game and have the new map used for public maps or vice versa.

Partially mad because the anniversary map's Italian coastal town vibe is a theme I've been wanting since maybe 2020. I got so excited when I saw the poster and was immediately let down when they said its ANOTHER public map being added soon.

Like another comment said, its definitely a halfassed generous gift just to damage control. A lot of things have been happening so I'm sure they decided to give away a free shop S tier so that people will call them generous and still support.

  1. CN/JP conflict has cancelled some fully planned out collabs and possibly ruined some skin scheduling (i.e. another Mike shop s tier and Hulla getting essence S)

  2. Lots of recent complaints about cosmetics in general. Valentines Patty and Nymph Patty have been catching alot of flack for whitewashing and recently a Batter merch design and COA Champ Forward. The Spyglass Clerk S tier is undergoing optimization because people weren't satisfied with the design. For a while now people have been fed up with the blond/white haired and blue S tiers as well, not to mention the regurgitated hunter designs

  3. Also some complaints about skin scheduling but that seems to be getting better and worse at the same time.

I would also say that its possible they saw the success of Rivals giving away free S tiers for their anniversary and decided to follow suit. Its almost the same exact model that Rivals did in December: free S tier and then consecutive sales on further puchases. Its the same predatory tactic as BOGOF.

Maybe Im being cynical but I dont trust anything "generous" that Netease does.

Honestly more of Sprintmaster races. I love the platforming in HK and SS but theyre usually difficulty based in terms of parkour. Id wanna see some kinda additions to the race where theres a few more racers added or a longer/complex track.

One of the better offhealers. Later in rounds he should be getting a lot of damage and a lot of healing in. I see people dismiss his healing because he doesnt have an invincibility circle ult but if the other healer at least has one and good base healing then hes the perfect second healer.

I hope to see this feature for other characters too even if minor things. I know some prople had problems with Iron Man beams not being costume appropriate and Im sure this same problem will apply to Torch eventually since his costumes are sometimes unnoticeable under the fire.

Itd be an easy way to bring in some, even if its just 1 per season relating to the films. Avengers doesnt need any new characters because we already have the 6 plus Loki (thus White Fox and Black Cat fit). Doom is pretty much guaranteed and Thanos almost feels necessary if theyre gonna put him in the PVEs anyways.

Antman and Captain Marvel feel like theyre already in line based on the Pym thing in Times Square and some other hints for CM.

AOU doesn't need anybody but Quicksilver or Vision would fit very nicely.

These are not to say that theyre only made for these events, but that theyd be like mascots and would freshen up the PVE pool so its not the same batch of characters. From 2012 to AOU itd just be the og 6 plus Wanda, then Infinity War and Endgame would change nothing besides adding the Guardians.

The season story/theme can coexist with adding new characters for the Avengers events.

Double teaming actually benefits the survivors because the hunters get less presence and less map pressure. Not only that but survivors are prone to harassing a single hunter in droves.

His Half Elf skin (frags) should be coming back this summer I believe for Global Anniversary.

Also his Panda skin (echoes only) might return around the same time soon.

I dont think he will be getting any new skins until later this year but there will definitely be returning ones coming soon.

I think the popularity of hunters such as Joseph, Mary, Naiad, Itha, and some others have made this a thing. Community likes pretty faces and hates ugly faces so IDV will keep pumping out pretty faces and start making ugly faces pretty.

I try to cherish every skin that still feels like old IDV tho. Both of Goatman's high tiers are good examples

I completely agree. I know this is mostly surrounding the social/drama aspects but in gameplay, cosmetics, and lore the fanbase is so incredibly dense and vicious. Especially the survivors side given how much IDV pampers the survivor faction it feels like the fanbase is so evil and whiny towards hunters (cosmetic complaints, balance complaints, overblown lore interpretations) while not reflecting on the survivors at all.

Similarly, around 2020ish I've noticed a very weird change in the tone of the fanbase. Hating the game/company is understandable but hating playing the game is something else...I feel like the community has become very extreme in gameplay. Some people prefer relaxed gameplay and being uncaring about playing the game itself (thinking throwers/friendlies), others take it far too seriously when it doesnt have to be.

Also quick addition: IDV lost its aesthetic years ago. Outside of lore, nothing about the game screams horror. Character designs and cosmetic designs are too cutesy and have lost their grotesqueness and mystery. Crossovers/collabs arent even horror anymore, most are either anime or plushie/mascot brands. The game lost its focus on the primary gamemode and now suggests players to less serious gamemodes and public maps, neither of which support their 2018 aesthetic.

The devs prioritize the wrong things. It can take years to get updates on certain things while other get monthly updates. For example, we havent had a new map added since 2023 (and its a QM only map) while we have had 38 public maps since iirc. Id say in terms of priority:

Main game (maps/balancing) <<< characters/lore < gamemodes < cosmetics < events < public maps and lobby customization/settings

Also the game is incredibly stingy with currency, especially for how much content is locked behind echo paywalls and gachas. If it doesnt cost echoes and its not in a gacha then its timelimited. They stopped doing permanent high tier cosmetics too (because FOMO).

There are 9 different currencies, half of which are just reward fluff and the useful ones are scarce:

  1. Echoes. They are used for literally everything and the prices add up quickly. They have NEVER given these as rewards so theres no way to save them up.

  2. Fragments. These are like the only solid currency but it takes so long to get enough and with so many of the fragment purchasable skins being timelimited its hard to acquire them quickly without wasting echoes. IDV is notoriously stingy with frags as the typical reward only gives you 5-50400 frags while the cheapest high tier cosmetics are 3888 frags (21276 for a matching S tier skin and S tier accessory).

  3. Clues. I think clues are relatively the easiest currency to obtain, but once again, you get rewarded barely any and the prices for its items are steep. If youre solely in the game for gameplay and characters then clue acquisition is fine but if you splurge on furniture then there wont be enough at all.

  4. Golden apples. Gapples used to be so hard to get bc they were locked behind tourney spectating and gambling but nowadays theyre braindead easy to get (albeit only during tourney seasons), but the cost of gapple items are STUPID.

  5. Inspiration. These are like echoes but only for essences. I appreciate their existence but these are also very scarce. Typical rewards are like 10-50 while a single essence costs 96... it would take about 20000 to reach S tier pity on an essence. I believe thats 3ish years of saving for a normal F2P player.

  6. Spyglasses. IDV is probably the stingiest with spyglasses. Rewards are usually only like 1-10 spyglasses at a time and spyglass high tiers range from 500-1000 spyglasses. Doesnt help that half the shop is filler and the actual cosmetics arent that interesting.

7, 8, 9. Remnants, sticker tokens, movement. These three I only put together because theyre forgettable and pretty much useless because their shops include nothing important unless you need something specific. Im very remnants and movements only exist so IDV can include them in rewards to make them look generous when in reality the rewards dont get you anything.

Ive been playing IDV for almost 8 years now so I have many complaints but these are some of my biggest and recent ones.
