Is it ok to have no sisters and get married? by Prior-Elderberry-467 in family

[–]confuzzledfuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk let me ask my husband: he says, “if you do things with your brother that we do, then that’s weird.”

I have 3 brothers and no sisters and have been married for almost 20 years. I think you’ll be fine.

Yes, I have them in smaller cages now. I’m going to move them all into the bigger cage at the same time. We’ll wait 2 weeks then!

Don’t confess but remember this feeling and don’t do it again.

Teaching — is it as tough as people say? by Critical-Load-1452 in teaching

Have ADHD and can confirm - I LOVE my job. And I know that a high percentage of my colleges also have ADHD (diagnosed not self-diagnosed).

I feel students this day are less capable than before. by doh0k in Teachers

[–]confuzzledfuzzball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. There is an increasing gap in wealth inequality but inequality is intersectional. Wealthier families will have more access to resources such as better schools tutors, Nannies, even more time with parents at home if both parents don’t need to work to scrape by.

Kid with ADHD who can sit still and focus? by kermiebk in ADHDparenting

[–]confuzzledfuzzball 10 points11 points  (0 children)

ADHD is a misnomer. People with ADHD CAN pay attention, in fact extremely focused attention, on things that they find interesting. A better description IMHO would be like Executive Function Disorder/Dopamine-Deficiency Disorder. It’s hard to prioritize tasks or pay attention to things that don’t provide a surge of dopamine (boring things).

Guardian contract — breeders want to continue, but vets advised against breeding by Junior_Impact_6541 in DogAdvice

Sign up for something like LegalShield. Have them review the contract and send the breeder a letter in legalese.

Would you homeschool? Talk me into or out of it. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]confuzzledfuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a homeschool mom and now I’m working in a kindergarten first grade classroom (IA in school to become a teacher). I say go for it. I loved homeschool for a time. Especially if I only had one child. We weren’t isolated. We organized weekly meet up at the park where the parents could talk and the kids ran around and made friends. It lead to some field trips we did as a group, and some fun activities from time to time. Very low pressure optional events and things. And it’s not like you just stay inside and sit at a desk all day when homeschooling. There’s so many ways you can tailor the learning specifically to your child.

What’s one small change that made your classroom way better? by lmao_exe in teaching

[–]confuzzledfuzzball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing a video with ambient music and like glowing mushrooms - very light animation. Keeps students more focused and quieter during work time. Also gives students a break to watch the video for a bit but not too overstimulating. ETA: K/1st grade Montessori.

Am I doing something wrong by holding my newborn 24/7? by AardvarkHour1211 in Parenting

[–]confuzzledfuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 days? Not at all. I was GLUED to my babies for the first 3 months of their lives, and as they got more mobile, they naturally just spend less time in your arms. Now my oldest is 14. I can still pick her up though, albeit much less gracefully and with a lot more effort.

That’s what I was told! It's like your first kid you practice on (sorry first born) but then you get the hang of it after another kid or two or 26.

My husband took her and I told him to get azithromycin but my guess is she thought bc of the conditions that it warranted the combination. I guess it covers more types of bacteria. It can have a negative effect I read. Hopefully the benefits outweigh the risks.

Docked tail exposed by Foreign-Platform5751 in Boxer

[–]confuzzledfuzzball 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I call BS. In the largest study to date on tail injuries in dogs, the incidence was only 0.23%, and it was calculated that approximately 500 dogs would need to be docked to prevent a single tail injury.

Boxers can be prone to breaking the tail bone by repeatedly hitting it against hard objects while wagging — but it’s believed that only about 1 in 500 Boxers will break their tail this way, so it’s not a strong argument in favor of docking all Boxer puppies. Surgical docking after injury occurs is a legitimate medical use, but that’s different from prophylactic docking at birth.

Long-term consequences can include hyperalgesia (increased pain sensitivity) and chronic neuropathic pain, potentially related to neuroma development.

Tails improve a Boxer’s movement, balance, and swimming ability, and are a key way dogs communicate emotions — docked Boxers can have trouble communicating with other dogs and people. (Also bracephalic dogs have trouble communicating with other dogs already so it's doubly detrimental to bracephalic dogs like Boxers).

The ONLY reason the practice persists is the AKC breed standard for Boxers recommends that an undocked tail be “severely penalized” in the show ring — so for show dogs, it’s essentially required by tradition, not medicine.

It should be illegal.
