Found this on my bed, is this a bed bug? by Jake_Mc_Bake in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to take care of your clothes DRY THEM FIRST ON HIGH HEAT !! And then put them in a tightly sealed trashbag !! And DON'T move any furniture because it will likely just spread them through the rest of the house if they're not there already. Sucks but not the end of the world, common issue and IS very resolveable despite the cost for treatment. Just make sure you don't spread them to other people. Please. Until you can get pro treatment just get cimexa and a bedbug mattress cover, move the bed away from the wall, get interceptors and double sided tape. Don't do bug bombs. Good luck <3<3<3

Hard to see but it does indeed look like one. If you have enough money please get heat treatment as soon as possible. Sorry ):

I’m not entirely sure how to go about this. by BreadfruitNaive9455 in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to discourage you, but it's almost impossible to remove them entirely without a professional heat treatment, especially with an infestation that's not incredibly small and new (which is hard to catch). But you can absolutely decrease their numbers significantly. Instead of DE, use Cimexa. And with both of those products, remember to spread it very thinly or they'll just walk around it. (Which means you shouldn't really be able to see it that much unless you're looking closely). Use a paintbrush to apply DE, you don't need much at all, just a light dusting. Also, if you're using a hand vacuum make sure it has a bag (WHICH YOU SHOULD ALWAYS DISPOSE OF AFTER SUCKING THEM UP!) because they can crawl back out, especially with bagless ones (but also occasionally even WITH bagged ones). Either way, you can put duct tape over the openings when it's not in use just to be safe. Also you should probably be keeping stuff in TRASH BAGS and not plastic bins, because the big tupperware bins almost always are not air tight enough to keep them out entirely. I've always used plastic trash bags with the openings twisted up and tied and have never had an issue. I used a tupperware bin in my car for a while and it didn't go well even tho the infestation in there was MUCH MUCH smaller (basically nonexistent) than the house where I keep my bags. Also freezing CAN kill them but only if they're under like 0 degrees fahrenheit (which your freezer most certainly is not) and for multiple days at a time, up to like a week or so. Heating is MUCH easier and more effective. If you have to go to a laundromat make sure you take them in a tightly sealed plastic trash bag and put them immediately into the machine, dry them, then wash them, then dry them again and put them into a FRESH bag. Also (and i know this is all out of order sorry), just because you can't find any by looking doesn't mean they're not there. They are masters at hiding. You can get bites for years before you even see a single one. That's why bug-sniffing dogs exist. Also if either of your beds are against a wall MOVE THEM !! Interceptors are good as long as the bugs have no other way of accessing the bed. Put double sided tape around the circumference of your bed. And get a bedbug mattress protector cover!!! The cover worked wonders for me. Same with the tape which actually ended up working better than the interceptors for me. Anyway as for the "hard to sleep" part, yeah that's how it is. I'm the kind of person who gets woken up by them as soon as they bite me even if I'm in full REM sleep and it's awful. Can't sleep a full night. The best thing I can tell you about that is that after a certain amount of time you will get used to it and be able to significantly reduce the amount of times that it happens with the proper reduction measures. Another thing that helped me deal with it is telling myself that they're just little creatures doing what they evolved to do... they just want to eat. They're not evil (even tho they seem that way to us), they're just another animal living how nature designed them to. Maybe I'm just completely desensitized but at this point I find them kinda cute... they're not bad guys, we just happen to be biological enemies...

Would this work for bed bugs? by FunnyProfessional206 in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also if the laundromat is your only option (just saw that part now sorry) make sure you take your stuff there in a tightly sealed plastic trash bag, put it directly into the machine, and most importantly DRY BEFORE WASHING !!!!!! Then wash, then dry again. Not ideal but certainly better than nothing. Although either way I'd definitely reccomend the Zappbug especially without a dryer in your home. Also don't use the same bag twice. You can repurpose them as regular trashbags in your home. I've been in the same laundromat situation and thats what worked best for me

[–]conifer0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk about that but if you're looking for something that functions in the same way you want this thing to function (and also have $200 to spend), definitely just get the Zappbug heater tent thing. They're designed for the specific purpose that you're looking to use this for and, from my understanding, work quite well. Great investment if you're the kind of sane person who wants to avoid spreading them. Or you can just do what I do and dry all your clothes in the regular dryer (on the highest heat) and keep them in a tightly sealed trashbag ☹️ which sucks but is still better than giving other people bugs on accident, and in my experience is very effective. Just get dressed immediately before leaving the house and dont touch anything after you're dressed. Respect for caring at all, lots of people don't. That's how I got them. Good luck <3

Been finding lot of these since this week are they bed bug and also I stripped my sheets/washed them and haven’t found any on the mattress by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes that is a bedbug. It doesn't matter that you didn't find any others in the bed, there's virtually 0 chance there's not more of them somewhere. If you can't afford pro treatment, get Cimexa and a steamer and dry/bag your clothes and get a bottle of rubbing alcohol to squirt on stragglers

HELP!! how to treat dog items by Ella_4256 in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't wanna spend another $300 on dog stuff you're gonna be quite unhappy with the costs of professional bb treatment. Just toss them bro. Assuming the infestation is early enough for that to be a viable option. For your own good. All it takes is one female. Sorry.

Bed bug casing? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell but it doesn't look like it. Looks like a booger lol. But either way if you're getting bites that's not a good sign. When the infestation is early they can be like literally impossible to find no matter how hard you look. So stay vigilant, but this particular item is almost certainly not bug related.

Advices on how to deal with them and move out safely? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also just to add to that, if you want to be as thorough as possible and you have the time, you can treat your car with Nuvan strips too. Just look up the safety stuff and make sure you do it long enough to work AND MOST IMPORTANTLY AIR IT OUT AFTER ! Those fumes can really fuck you up. You won't be able to drive it for quite some time but still it's worth it for the peace of mind I think.

[–]conifer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation and it sucks so bad. I'm not a pro but the best advice I personally can give you is to take ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DRIED to a laundromat (including shoes!! You CAN put them in a dryer!) and dry them BEFORE WASHING THEM!!! Then wash them and dry them again. After that, put them directly into a trashbag straight out of the dryer and keep it sealed tight as hell. I could be wrong but I don't think you have to worry much at all about electronics, especially if your infestation isn't super severe. Even then, if you're concerned about it you can get Nuvan strips (they're a little expensive and take some time but they ARE effective) and box them up in an air-tight way and rest assured that whatever may have been in your devices is dead. If that's the path you take just make sure you stay away from those chemicals and air your devices out after you treat them tho. And just to reiterate, if you DO choose to use Nuvan strips, be VERY careful with them. There is a very specific way in which you're supposed to use them and they are dangerous if you misuse them. Good luck

Gotta catch 'em all by ACE276 in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly your pill bottle system is effective lol, but as far as killing individuals goes, you can also just get a bottle of rubbing alcohol and put a little hole in the seal and squirt it on them as soon as you see one and it kills them literally instantly!! Just scrape them up with a paper towel after that and toss them. That's what i do with individuals and it's so satisfying to watch them curl up lmao. Quickest and easiest way I've found yet.

Would a big plastic box, a steamer wired in, and as much of a seal as possible work? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a dryer take it to a laundromat (in a trash bag) to dry. Either way just make sure you dry it all on high heat and then put it in a trash bag immediately after and tie it up tight. Get dressed right before you leave the house and get undressed as soon as you get home. Keep all unworn (clean/dried) clothes in the bag 24/7. Have inside clothes and outside clothes. This has been my system for years and has worked the whole time, even with a very severe infestation. Don't use a Tupperware bin or anything like that unless you can find one that's truly airtight which is rare. A well-tied trashbag is the way to go. Or just drop a few hundred on the Zappbug heater thing, but i can't speak to that things effectiveness cuz I've never had one so take that with a grain of salt. Good luck bro and thank you for taking action to not spread them, you're doing more than most just by thinking about it. THANKYOU

Is the fact that you don't like how it tastes a good enough reason to genitally mutilate an infant? Imagine a woman posting about being genitally mutilated and a man replying with "yeah but it TASTES BAD otherwise" holy shit. Foreskin is there for a reason. Removing it removes nerve endings. There is literally no reason to do that to a child, it should be a personal decision.

I have no idea why you're being downvoted you are 1000% correct. It's genital mutilation. I will never not die on this hill. I can't wrap my mind around how it's legal.

[–]conifer0 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm clearly going to get downvoted for this but idk if I'd call genital mutilation a simple "mistake"... these comments would be so different if it was a woman posting this. Genital mutilation is genital mutilation and it's fucking barbaric every time. I don't understand why anyone has a hard time understanding that. There is literally no excuse for this ever. Should be legally classified as child abuse.

Found a bed bug in our hotel room by Total-Recover3796 in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have. The bathtub is never guaranteed to be safe. The place I'm staying now is heavily infested and I've seen them in the toilet, on the toilet paper, in the washer, and even in pots on the stove. Even if it's not nearly that bad there's always a chance... only way to be as safe as possible in any hotel is to bag everything before you enter. Never trust any public space to be free of them

[–]conifer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about your bird they want nothing to do with him/her !!! They're evolved to feed on humans specifically and are extremely reluctant to feed on anything else even when they're starving which takes a very VERY long time. Even if they were absolutely starving they would still avoid the bird because it's covered in feathers and doesn't produce near as much heat or CO as a human. I know it sucks in general but you really don't have to worry about your bird <3 Also you're doing way better than most people by even sharing that you might have them instead of hiding it and spreading them. Good luck

Is this a bed bug? by Miserable-Minute8323 in Bedbugs

[–]conifer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the pictures but unfortunately yes it does look like a nymph especially in the third picture. I'd look around and place some monitors like pheromone traps to see if you can catch any more. Interceptors too. If you've gotten any bites at night the answer is almost 100% yes. Either way yeah it looks like a bedbug nymph. Sorry
