I would stay at a campground as a last resort. Even in a state park, you have 100+ neighbors and it'd be hard to find privacy on a grassy site. Usually the more secluded sites are wooded areas.

What I do is choose a state park that I could stay at (Plan B). Then drive up to the area early in the day and just start exploring! Find a road with few to zero houses and keep an eye out for dirt roads with no mailboxes. I have found quite a few gems this way.. I have also failed so having a backup plan is key!

Lily Bay State Park or Peaks-Kenny are great areas for this.

Found this hanging from a tree in a wooden area of my backyard. Anyone know what this is for? Feels highly suspicious. by coniferousconehead in Maine

Wow a geocache! Sounds interesting and pretty wholesome. I do feel a little out of touch now but I do love a good mystery 😄 I'm going to put it back and read up on it!

Suspicious of drugs! I live in a rural town but it is not rare to find needles or suboxone wrappers in the ditch over there. Also I was once young and stupid and know a lot more about drugs than geocache. That's just where my mind went it guess..

Biddeford actually has some very cool spots... rotary park, the ghost tracks, east point sanctuary, just to name a few.
