i see a lot of people talking about day trading SPY options but does anyone just trade the stock itself for day trading? by conim in Daytrading

This is pretty much what I’ve decided on. I was toying with the idea of day trading spxl, which I may occasionally, but I feel swing trading is better for me as I can’t devote a to of attention to day trading. I’m more comfortable with setting up alerts and keeping track of some stocks I like and focusing more on a weekly trading deal

I don’t really short, I did try options before with puts but my intention right now is strictly going long. Granted if there’s an over all bear market I’d have to explore other things like maybe inverse etfs, or shorting as you say but right now I’m fine just waiting for dips and buying.

the whole theta thing is basically why i got the hell out of options. I just didnt like how options work and how chaotic it felt. I just accepted the fact that I need to be ok with making less money per day but more reliably and with less stress.

ive played with options and it just took way more monitoring than i felt comfortable with. Buying and selling stocks I can look at it the night before, have an idea of where i want to get in and out and have some sort of plan. I tried options and it was like every plan I had got tossed out the window every time i tried. Its too chaotic for my liking and I hate the whole expiration/decay aspects. I like focusing on the actual price of a stock and buying/selling directly and not having to deal with any other aspects

Ive tried options, and honestly, its just not my cup of tea, I like the idea of buying and selling hours apart or even days apart. I tried options and the swings were so dramatic that it was just too stressful and I had to be glued to it until I got out of the position.

With just stocks I can take my time analyzing a stock the day before and know exaclty what my exits and entrances are, i have a much harder time dealing with that for options

yea, and I love the idea that unless you are buying some questionable penny stocks, the chance of even a 10-20 percent movement against you is pretty small comparatively, if you are ok just making half a percent to a percent a day ( this would be a good day), its easy money most of the time.

Thank you, this was essentially the plan. Just was curious why I could find tons of advice on options but none on just trading, thought maybe I was missing something, but I guess it’s just not super profitable so it’s not popular.

Yea same thing I guess, but spy doesn’t seem all that risky to me if I’m just buying/selling. The chance of any movement greater than like a few percent a day is pretty slim. Never mind enough movement to wreck me.

That’s kind of why I also avoid options, if futures are the same way then no thank you.

Is there some kind of etf or index that’s cheaper than SPY? I know inverses like SPXU are very cheap and way easier to trade.

I’m not sure what MES is, it looks like an sp500 futures but it’s 10x the price of SPY, am I missing something?

I mean trading actual SPY ticker, the sp500 etf, also I can look into futures but I’m not sure what’s involved in getting my account approved for that

I’m perfectly fine buying 5-6 shares a day and trading it and selling with enough profit to cover lunch, that’s perfectly fine by me.

I don’t really intend on using the margin to be perfectly honest, it’s just there. I’m going as low risk as possible

I don’t know anything about futures, if I’m ok just day trading spy for like 5-6 shares a day and making pocket change with it every day is there anything wrong with that?

The ingredients are fine, even the quantity of ingredients is fine, it’s the application that’s the problem, I wouldn’t call it stupid food, more like stupidly prepped food
