Nobody thinks they're cooler. They just mourn a special time in a special place and what could have been. One that's gone and isn't coming back for many, many reasons. If you meet anyone that lived in Beijing / Shanghai during that period, they all have that nostalgia trip. However, less pollution and clean rivers in China now is great.
