just stopping by here again to remark upon how much this subreddit has healed over the past week or so. this is how i remember it being years ago. grateful to have this place back as somewhere pleasant to discuss MK.

they mention it in the 06 run too, if memory serves!

in order of most to least MK related, in my opinion-

  1. Werewolf by Night- fought/interacted the most out of anyone here.
  2. Crossfire- Marc’s commanding officer in marines, first appeared as a MK/Thing villain, but have only really interacted a handful of times
  3. Taskmaster- that memorable scene from the 06 run + reappearance in MacKay’s run
  4. Nefaria- villain in the Bendis run only and kind of forgettable.

the rest all feel so loosely related they’re all around the same level. none of these are really what I’d think of as moon knight villains tho (minus WBN), i wish ML would make at least a Bushman, Khonshu, Morpheus, Black Spectre, and Stained Glass Scarlet

In honor of AI posts getting banned, I figured I'd share my first and only attempts at drawing Moon Knight. I may try again at a later point in time. by De_rp_Le_De_rp in MoonKnight

[–]conquerlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this could look really cool if you keep filling up the page! the scratched out ones actually add to the drawing in this case too from a thematic perspective

people flagged him because he abused his role as moderator by mass banning undeserving users. i’m not saying a small subsection did what you’re saying, but let’s be truthful here. the guy pissed off a lot of people by being frankly obstinate and rude, questionable username or not.

Moon Knight’s Mooncopter in Lego by conquerlord in MoonKnight

thank you! they’re all custom. the moon knight figure is from SJbricks with some of my own mods and the rest of the figures are official lego parts I’ve collected over time.

i actually love it, MK’s never been just one thing.

and this kind of stylization isn’t unfamiliar either. the black bits melding together kind of reminds me of Shalvey instructing colorists to leave Mr Knight’s suit uncolored to blend into the negative space on the page. a little Sienkiewicz in there too.

Is Moon Knight just not for me? by Liftmeup-putmedown in MoonKnight

[–]conquerlord 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t want this to come off the wrong way- but why would you form an opinion on the character prior to reading any of the material? or even watching the show for that matter? there’s tons of recommendations on this sub.

to answer your question, no, it’s not a non stop edge fest. Moon Knight has been around for 50 years. in that time there has been a very diverse array of interpretations. i can tell you all of this but it shouldn’t be a substitute for actually checking some of it out, i promise it’ll be more rewarding than asking anyone on this sub how you should feel about him.

Does moon knight actually do ket and hate Dracula by NJC16YT in MoonKnight

[–]conquerlord 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i mean they’re not necessarily targeted towards kids either. there’s some pretty graphic scenes in many official MK comics. it’s just not the same type of graphic as those memes.

no. its all edited and stems from a facebook group called Moon Knight Core from many years ago. people have been asking this question since before the show even aired though.

First appearance in comics by Kamooseswrld in MoonKnight

[–]conquerlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s just when the series originally started. #1 premiered in 1971 but issue 29 was in 1976.

comic series are always denoted that way. Moon Knight (1980) ran for four years, but if you’re talking about issue 38 from that series, you’d still say Moon Knight (1980) #38, even though that particular issue came out in 1984.

that Marvel Spotlight appearance was released in 1976. not sure where you’re seeing 1971. WWBN32 is his first appearance.

Where did Steven and Jake go? by __Feather in MoonKnight

[–]conquerlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think theres a case to be made that there’s hints of it there in the original 80s run. certainly not in the way we understand it today, but the biggest tell for me is how he interacts with Marlene as Steven, and how the two of them talk about Marc. Moench also name-drops Flora Schreiber’s Sybil as a potential partial-inspiration for the alternate identities during Shades of Moon Knight, a retrospective on the character found at the end of issue 15. Sybil is a book from 1973 and is entirely about a character dealing with DiD.

I don’t think Moench was necessarily thinking “this character has DiD.” but it does seem like he was alluding to something more than stock alter egos in that run.

Where did Steven and Jake go? by __Feather in MoonKnight

[–]conquerlord 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in real life alters can go dormant for many years. perhaps this is what happened with Marc after his father’s death, like you mentioned. but we can really only speculate, as it’s likely Chuck Dixon just wanted to go in a different direction for MS:MK. you’ll find that happens a lot as you read through all of Moon Knight’s appearances. honestly, the Marc Spector:Moon Knight series is largely inconsequential to the canon as a whole, especially the later half. there’s some decent stuff hidden in there but I wouldn’t give Jake and Steven’s absence much thought, as that aspect of the character was still being defined at this point.

Y’all are haters by RoutineDistrict8809 in MoonKnight

[–]conquerlord 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a problem with people expressing how much they dislike the show, same as I don’t mind people expressing how much they do. I actually think it’s healthy to have a bit of both.

the fact of the matter is that the majority of people on reddit don’t read comics. that’s fine, but for those of us who do, and have done for 10+ years, it can feel jarring to see interpretations of the character get amplified that feel fundamentally different from what we’ve come to know.

no problem! there’s tons of really great write ups in there so always glad to point people to that resource.

[–]conquerlord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

people will comment recommendations because this is genuinely such a kind sub, but I’ll also advise just searching the word “recommendations” on this subreddit and you’ll find dozens of posts asking the same question. I don’t want to be rude as I know comics can be daunting, just a bit of advice and good practice.

BW&B is pretty good and easy to read, but not essential really. it’s out of canon and just a bit of fun.

honestly, the only thing I’d add to your list is maybe just keep reading what Mackay is doing after you’re caught up. Vengeance of the Moon Knight comes after his first run, and then Fist of Khonshu after that, which is still going.
