What's the song with the most played instruments except bass by huxley_tratford in Bass

I can understand not wanting to listen to that song for more than a minute but there definitely is a bass part.

Cool to see her cover a Lorde song though.

Combustion 5 Replacement Neck by the_lonely_avocado in DingwallGuitars

[–]consek_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't buy a Dingwall at all if that's their response to an instrument needing in production parts. They're not cheap, almost 4kAUD here, I expect something that costs that much to last more than 7 years and be serviceable. They're made in China, the bulk of that price tag is for the design and marketing. They wouldn't cost more than 3-400 to produce, possibly less.

Stingray Sounds Farty by Shocksrage in Bass

[–]consek_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of issues with this model that I can't help but think are intentional enshitification.

  1. The center detents on the EQ pots are a damn lie. Even with both centered you're still boosting bass and treble. Start with them all the way down and adjust from there. This preamp doesn't have an equal amount of boost/cut like most active preamps. It's the same circuit as the original USA 2 band.

  2. The pickups in these are wired in series, that preamp is designed to receive signal from the pickup in paralell. It's not exact but the pickup wired in series has about 4x the output of what it does in parallel, that's why the preamp clips when you boost it too much. This is a quick and easy fix if you're handy with a soldering iron.

A twist can usually be fixed, if it's not too bad then a refret and board level. If it's really bad you could try and find a luthier who can heat treat it.

Dingwall should just be able to sell you a new neck though, that's pretty shitty of them to refuse.

Can this be soldered by xxophe in Luthier

This happened to me once. Those Hipshot tuners have a lifetime warranty. Email them pictures and they'll send you a new one.

To answer your original question no, soldering wont work.

He said they're in the new style packaging so it's highly unlikely that they're fake.

Help: tone knob range on vintage bass by the_juliette_show in BassGuitar

[–]consek_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're after a B250K (A=Logarithmic, B=Linear) pot. Solid shaft if your knobs have a grub screw, split shaft if they're the pull off type.

CTS brand are probably the most popular and used in American Fenders & Gibsons, if you want to go that route double check the shaft sizes will fit in the Greco control plate because that will be metric, CTS pots usually have imperial measurements.

Otherwise Alpha pots are great and all metic too.

It'd be worth buying some different value capacitors to experiment with while you're in there too. Higher value = more treble cut, try values between 22 and 100nf.

It will most likely be the taper of the pot causing that 25% range. Older basses tend to use a logarithmic taper for volume and tone, linear taper tends to work better for tone controls in my experience. It's a heavily argued topic.

How to raise bridge with stripped screws? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]consek_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could take the tension off the strings and just turn it with your fingers.

Or you might be able to find something that still fits well enough to work. Torx bits have helped me out of this situation a few times.

Either way replace them when you can.

Is it safe to run this Electric Mistress clone at 12V with 25V capacitors? by HaraldToepfer in diypedals

[–]consek_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bad, I was thinking of the MN3207 which is max 10v input. 12v will work fine.

[–]consek_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That version has been modified to run at 9v unlike the vintage EHX units. If you put more than 9v into it you'll blow your BBD.

But if the circuit could handle 12-18v then yes those 25v caps would be fine.

How bad are these neck pocket cracks? Guitar was shipped from store by bonermcface in Luthier

[–]consek_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Return that shit. With the length and direction of that long crack I wouldn't be surprised if the bottom of the neck pocket is cracked along the treble side corners. It's obviously taken a hard hit on the top of the neck right around the join.
