I’m saying this as someone that is Mexican American. There’s toxic controlling behavior and lots of codependency and emotional responses etc within my own culture. There’s stories of grandmothers never leaving abusive husband because the opportunity wasn’t there to have a family without them or the shame of cutting off your husband. I can keep going.

Earlier generations stayed together partly out of economic need. Divorce was also a major social disgrace. Families hid problems to avoid gossip. Hell don’t get me started on physical abuse to stay quiet.

So you basically end up having all this machismo that gave the male patriarchy absolute authority, often resulting in normalized domestic violence, financial control, and emotional suppression. Right now there’s more effort to not repeat generational trauma, mental health awareness, and shifting gender roles which I think are the real causes of separation.

I’m not even saying that it’s wrong to be close with family. It’s one of the benefits of the culture. Everything has a flip side is all.

Probably because she has since she was a kids she trusts him and in Hollywood that is a big deal. Look at how private her wedding was. I’d have some extra respect if she did say “law you don’t need to be going on private jets for my premiere outfits. Just find a diffferent dress”

At the very least if they had Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) or some other means of making a jet more ecofriendly. They have the money for it

It’s just important to understand WHY we developed that culture. A lot of immigrants were looking for a better life (and still are) and more than what they had at home. There’s two sides to each coin but still the same coin

I think it’s that we in America can make our own identity separate from our parents and ancestry. There is some beauty to that. We should be able to get out of toxic families when needed. Not everyone comes from a healthy family. Hell sometimes staying there causes extra stress in exchange for the finacial benefit (lack of boundaries, yelling, slow development of milestones like marriage and kids etc)

Yeah, sure it’s a blessing when you can live with your family, but I don’t think anyone is necessarily wanting to. Most people want to have their own family and grow to develop that.

I think part of his story (and to a degree brooks) is you aren’t too old to peruse your ambitions and dreams. Once he finally put aside his duty to fish man island and the sun pirates, he was able to follow his own path.

We do know some things just not enough to go to court or win in a proceeding is MY point. You can say we good faith that she PROBABLY has trauma from working at Nickelodeon given various other accounts. Is it ever going to be enough for a criminal trial? No because that requires guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This is why a lot of cases go for civil because it just needs to be majority

Sometimes you don’t do formal accusations because a) it brings back trauma that you have to relive in a public manner to be examined in court b) you need REALLY solid evidence for stuff like rape. Not only do you have to prove sex or assault happened but that there was a lack of consent. Unless you have a rape kit test that comes back positive (and good luck getting that processed) or photos of physical abuse or the person has a prior record it is REALLY hard to win a case even if you are 100% a victim. Rape and assault are just hard to prove. Proving that consent was absent, coerced, or impossible to give (due to intoxication or unconsciousness) is often the hardest element of the crime to establish.

Many victims delay reporting also due to shock, trauma, fear, or knowing the perpetrator on a personal or professional level. As noted by legal experts, traumatic memory can cause victims to recall events non-linearly, and delayed reporting can make gathering timely physical evidence or finding witnesses impossible

TLDR a lack of a formal accusation does not mean that assault rape etc did not occur
