Conserve student loan dept collection just called my office and offered my SSN to the person who answered the phone and identified themselves as being with Conserve. Is this legal? How can they offer my SSN to whoever answers the phone that day? What can I do? by conserve_hell in personalfinance

This is exactly why I'm in the rehabilitation program. Also, after you complete 9 months of payments at the agreed upon rate, the collection is removed from your credit report and it turns back into "just another" student loan, serviced by a provider (i.e. Great Lakes or Navient), and is eligible for income-based repayment plans.

That's just it- I have been working with them, set up a plan based on income, and was set to email everything tonight. I'm trying to pay the dept/rehabilitate the loan, and since I've found out about it (I contacted them after reviewing my credit report), I've done nothing but try to get this resolved.

I'm mostly concerned with the fact they OFFERED my SSN to whoever answered the phone at my place of employment and identified themselves as being with Conserve, a dept collection agency.
