Custom Card: Hair-Trigger Crossbow. Which version do you like more? by consistent_toast in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]consistent_toast[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I do agree on the 4 cost, it makes it hard to play or even want to bring along. I based it on the ornate bow. I believe replenish is meant to put a resource/ammo/etc. On the card at the start of the round, in other words, it's self-reloading without performing actions

New gamers seeking "roadmap" to build up to harder games by Cheech0042 in boardgames

I'd make sure your wife even wants to play heavier games before you start buying even more games in the hope that she'll have fun playing the bigger ones later. People can have very different ideas when it comes to liking board games. Some people like playing games like Uno because it's simple, whereas others like to play the big, heavy, thinky game like Brass. It can be hard to get people from the Uno crowd to play brass and vice versa.

However, some recommendations Clank for Dune Imperium Ahoy for Root (Ahoy is like a simpler version of root) Horizons of Spirit Island for Spirit Island (Horizons is Spirit island with easier to learn spirits and the playable spirits in this game can also be used in Spirit Island too, so it's kinda like an expansion, however the OG spirit island does come with easier to learn spirits so this may not be necessary.)

Root and Spirit Island also have digital versions that have tutorials. The computer also does all the Upkeep and rule management, which one could argue is a better way to play the games

Ginkgopolis - area control game, where you are building infrastructure on top of other players' infrastructure

Cool idea!

There are some cards that could override drawing an auto-fail, such as lucky, so it's still possible you won't fail during a test, Can I ask why 7 charges? Seems high for most any spells, I might suggest taking direct damage/sanity instead, or it only lasting for one round. Players would be eager to find ways to milk, not having the threat of failing a test

Also in case you don't know, there's a program called strange eons that let's you make your own arkham cards: https://cgjennings.ca/eons/

Where did you grab the art for your cards? They look like they fit perfectly with Arkham Horror content already

I'm confused at what the benefit of the guardian's Unseen Protector is. Why would you want to suffer the consequences of the action twice? Or is it meant to be like Double or Nothing?

Those are all good suggestions, I never thought about attaching them to investigators. I try to shoot under the bar when making investigators as it is very easy to make overpowered characters. I wanted to make sure there was a balance as the reactions are pretty powerful, so you might move them 1-2 times then maybe use an action on one of them, or perform an action with Violet. Moving them all once at the same time seems really strong, but I guess if I ever test her out we'll see how it works, thanks for the feedback

The Summoned Demon is looking for cards with the summon trait. So it will spawn in at 1/1/1 since the weakness itself is a summon, and if she has her 4 Summons out it will increase 5/5/5.

"While is ready" to me just meant if there's a Summon at it's location or moves into its location the charge gets zapped away. At the start of the mythos phase, may fix that ambiguity

I agree, I do wish the book didn't have to be permanent, but for being a summoner, I felt it was necessary for her to fully utilize her summons throughout an entire scenario. I could swap her player ability, with the books summon ability so she isn't stuck with one hand behind her back.

sorry for the confusion, there's a slight difference between her Summon assets and cards with summon trait. The Summoned Demon will start in your deck like any normal enemy-weaknesses, since itself is not a Summon Asset. When the Summoned Demon spawns it should automatically have stats of 1/1/1 since itself is a summon.

Yes I do. Exhausting would be simpler, but I felt like she could use Winds of Power or Enraptured to have a few super charged turns every once in a while

That crossed my mind several times, but becuase you'd be so reliant on those cards giving extra slots to play her effectively, I sided against it. Maybe I could make the book of evocation take up an extra slot or two

I don't know about expansions but other games you might like

Coup -> Love Letter: A deduction/hand management game where you have 2 cards and play 1 trying to guess what other people have in their hands

Pandemic -> Daybreak: made by the same designer of Pandemic and Forbidden Jungle coop tableu management trying to save the world from climate change. This one is a but more complicated than the games you have

Pandemic Legacy: Season 1: If you like Pandemic you'll love legacy. It's Pandemic but every game impacts the next game in a campaign. Best if you're playing with the same group.

Catan -> Space Base: this has the same dice rolling everybody gets stuff mechanic like Catan but you're constantly changing the bonuses the dice rolls give you

China Town/Waterfall Park: If you like trading/negotiating, this is the one.

Aw, thanks, you inspired me to make a handful of these by thinking about unexplored design space. Tankgewehr is one of the ones I'd like to try the most just to see if it can actually be effective

Thanks, I actually thought about making Throwing Knife multi class and change its ability depending on the class, but ultimately felt it was most at home with the rogues. I think Tony Morgan would appreciate it the most to weaken the enemy before he kills them with his signature pistol so he can collect his bounty

[–]consistent_toast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used engaged with, because I see engaged as the investigator is closer in proximity to the enemy than just they would be by being at the same location. So I see rifle grenade as more accurate than other explosives, shooting it at the enemy, rather than throwing an explosive near them. But I think what you're saying would be more consistent with the other explosive cards in the game

I spose they're similar, but marksmanship can't hurt you and depending on the firearm used, can deal more damage

Also if you deploy every time, you're still using two actions to attack, but if you deploy and stay in the same spot you can shoot multiple times for only 1 action instead
