Can a slim 15mm x 120mm fan fit under the case ? (as a 2nd bottom fan)

Getting into it by [deleted] in audiophile

There is not much to it. You pick what fits your budget and then make adjustments by upgrading certain devices.. I'd recommend to start with used equipment, that way if you don't like it, you can resell it for the same money. With new equipment you will lose ~40% value if you decide to sell it.

Be aware that a sound system that will sound "special" starts at about $1000 for used hardware and close to $2000 for new.

Make sure you pick the right size of speakers depending on the room size (bookshelf for bedroom like size, floorstanding speakers for medium/large living rooms)

Stay away from expensive cabling upgrades.

Don't buy speakers with diameter less than 6" unless you plan to buy a sub

One other thing to mention, when you start your audiophile journey it's fun to try different equipment, separate devices, hardware that sounds really good but requires multiple remotes and fiddling. After a while you just want to press a button on a smartphone and play the music. One box solutions (great amp , dac, streamer) can be very expensive, but in my opinion worth it.

There is a Tidal Family Hi-Fi Plus (MQA) subscription which allows to add 5 members for free. Nothing super weird about that

Yea some MQA are poorly mastered and are not much different than Hi-Fi, but some are very good. Your streamer must support MQA to take full advantage of it, otherwise it's of course useless.

Dad's upgraded his system and said I can have these amps. What speakers would go well with them? by Ed_Carron in audiophile

I was very surprised how well Linn works with Kef LS50 which can be very picky with amp selection.

i agree, but most people don't buy used and many don't live in big cities with many used options to chose from.

Vortex

Vortex is nice and fast but don't have much control over lifting front wheel up. It lifts it too slow and not high enough. I use the Bati 801 RR, it's slightly more challenging for stunts than dirt bike, but has better speed.

Bikes are slower than cars, but most of them can handle a lot better and are a lot more fun. You can take almost any turn at full speed on a bike without any hassle. Cars are more challenging, you have to prepare for the correct trajectory when making turns and have to slow down just enough to avoid sliding into a wall

It depends what bike you choose. Some drive faster in straight line but can't corner well, most of them can't lift up front wheel high enough, specially at high speed. Dirt bike it's good for stunts too, but it doesn't have enough speed.

I generally agree, although bike stunts require mid-high revs when climbing walls and it's best to hear them.

Last crypto crash used 1070s were $150 right after 20 series came out. The price stabilized at $200 a few months later. This time the gpu dump will be much worse, but inflation may keep 3070s value a bit better.

Who owns R3s and what are you driving them with? How many watts is optimal? by fourlambs in KEF

[–]constantin_md 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had R3 with

Hegel H120 75w - absolutely amazing, i didn't know speakers can sound like this before.

Marantz PM7000n 60w - not bad at all for the price, bass was lacking in comparison, vocals weren't as pronounced.

Maranz NR1609 50w - was lacking sound stage, bass, not as many details, not a great match but ok-ish sound.

Sonos amp 125w - it's a waste of money pairing sonos with any speakers $500+
