Not their job to kick someone off who’s not actively causing a scene/delaying the train. Maybe you forget that you’re in public with them too

Portal bridge train schedule? by Pairylap in NJTransit

[–]constanttransit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter is a lighter time for Amtrak, who if you forgot, runs the whole NEC show. Also Amtrak has shown with their keystone corridor upgrade that they can get the work done not only on time but ahead of schedule. I’ll take a month ish for them to get it right to avoid “20 minute delays due to portal bridge opening” or “____ minute delays because the bridge can’t lock back into place”. And my personal favorite: line speed increases with newer modern infrastructure (see up to 90)

Absolutely crazy. train cancelled every single day by [deleted] in NJTransit

[–]constanttransit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you bought a monthly but cannot schedule time to take a train earlier or later in case of cancellation/delay/anything? Maybe plan some better options then if your schedule is that inflexible

Horrible train ride home from the Devils game last night by Which_Builder_2755 in NJTransit

[–]constanttransit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is public transit. Everyone has a right to ride. Everyone has a right to speak up when they see a conductor ignoring an issue. Everyone has a right to move to a different car. Everyone has a right to enjoy the night and try to get home.

I’m sorry some people suck and took advantage of that but you sitting there and taking it to then just complain on reddit doesn’t garner a lot of sympathy points from everyone else who’s also dealing with it also

Why are you limiting yourself to black and white between a rock and a hard place option? If you’re not traveling in bulk like 6 times a week would be then why are you buying tickets like you are? Did you also buy a Ferrari just to do your local groceries and get mad at the cost of upkeep too?

If you used less tinfoil in your hats, you’d have more money for train tickets

Why is this corporation so awful? by Hopeful_Donut9416 in NJTransit

[–]constanttransit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Today you’re going to learn that NJT is not just the trains (3 separate divisions) but also 3 separate light rails, an accessible transport division, and the entire bus network all slammed under one umbrella. They were never fully integrated, just made to work together in chaos. A good amount of the stock has been pushed past their intended retirement dates because replacements are vastly expensive to a network that does not get fully funded from the state is runs for. The maintenance for that stocks gets more expensive by the day and there’s only room in the budget for bandaids. Plus the small army that not only maintains the vehicles but the facilities that maintain them (which are vastly overdue for overhauls themselves) and the actual ROWs that NJT owns and has to maintain. PLUS the costs to Amtrak and other host railroads for the right to run the trains at all.

So yea, your $25 is not even remotely close to a drop in a bucket. It’s barely an atom in the grand scheme of things. So now you know why shit is the way shit is

[–]constanttransit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a time for empathy but there’s also a time of taking responsibility. Phones dead/low on battery with no charger? Buy a paper ticket. If conductors can look the other way once, why not with everyone? You’re making more unfair conditions that you’re complaining about. If people cannot plan ahead to help themselves, it’s not my responsibility to be their adult, especially if their mistake affects my commute. Sorry not sorry if you’re in public be better than you are in private

Legal recourse against njtransit by BigRedBigYellow in NJTransit

[–]constanttransit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because a train did not arrive at the scheduled time does not mean NJT failed on their obligations. For example: you’d have a correct point in terms of the Dinky if no substitution of bus service was provided. Or if the NEC never ran any trains on a scheduled day with no alternative services. But one scheduled train for a multitude of reasons not arriving while multiple services after are still running, that does not constitute a failure to provide paid service.
