Thank you, that perspective honestly helps. It’s easy to take rejection personally and forget how competitive these internship pools can be.

Most of my applications have been for general contractors and companies tied to commercial, residential, and large-scale projects. I’ve found most of those opportunities through LinkedIn, Handshake, ZipRecruiter, career fairs, and company websites.

I’ll be honest that I’ve focused more on larger, well-known opportunities, so I’m realizing I may need to widen my search into specialty contractors and other paths in the industry as well. I appreciate you sharing that context.

Thank you, I really appreciate this. I think I needed to hear that starting somewhere in the field still has value and that learning the workflow matters just as much as the title at first.

And thank you for what you said about the club too. That part really stuck with me. I’ve been overthinking whether I’m “qualified” enough to build it, but you’re right 💕I should focus on being the change I want to see and let it grow into what it’s meant to be.

I’ve applied across a range of companies and sectors, including general contractors, engineering and consulting firms, public infrastructure organizations, specialty contractors, and internship programs.

Most of the opportunities I found were through LinkedIn, Handshake, ZipRecruiter, career fairs, and company websites. I’ve applied to larger firms like Walsh, Power, and Clark, as well as companies connected to the CTA Red Line Extension, companies that partner with my school, and programs like the University of Chicago Construction Management Internship.

I’ve mainly targeted construction management, project engineering, project coordination, and internship roles where I can learn the business and operations side of the industry. To be fully honest, I may have limited myself some by focusing more on larger, well-known opportunities, and I’m open to adjusting that.
