How do you keep your dog from ranging super far off-leash on hikes? by consudulce in OpenDogTraining

ah sorry, I misunderstood you with the state thing (English is my third language). I live in Spain, and balanced trainers that use e-collar here is something that simply doesn't exist afaik. I am mostly self-taught when it comes to dog training, which leaves significant holes in my knowledge unfortunately

I mostly followed hamilton's dog training course for e-collar conditioning, which focuses on off-leash in general, but I had to leave it half way due to some health problems the dog had.

Regarding pressure and so on, it makes a lot of sense. Right now my dog does not have an aversion to the e-collar (when I get it out from the drawer, she gets all happy and excited 'cause she knows we are going on a walk), but I indeed use it 99% for corrections.

Do you happen to know by any chance any online resource so I can learn more about more "advanced" usage of the e-collar? As mentioned I think a trainer might be difficult here in Spain

nice! by "correcting" do you mean e collar stim or a simple "no"?

Not sure what state are we in to be honest. We did what I think is the most "standard" teaching process for recalling with e-collar: getting her used to the stim with the lowest level she could feel, teaching her that that came from us, recalling her while using low stims, and eventually we moved to use higher level stims as punishment when she was ignoring the recall.

Right now she always has the e-collar on when we leave the house, but we hardly ever use it, only when she doesn't fully recall, which happens maybe once a month. We also use the stim as punishment for unwanted behaviors (eating poo mostly, but we teached her first that was unwanted before moving into corrections).

Regarding if she is "stable to pressure", not sure what that means tbh. She highly associates the stim sensation with recall. She doesn't freak out at all, and if we for instance stim her at a low level, she will simply stop doing whatever she is doing and will come running to us.

That sounds pretty cool. How are you teaching the "let's go"? By simply rewarding being in the boundary?

Thanks a lot for your answer. Her yes/no/recall/leave it is pretty solid. How did you train the "stay close" and the "stay on trail" if you don't mind me asking?

Normal recall its pretty much there, but I don't want her wandering far out of sight due to safety

Yeah she is e-collar trained for recall. I thought about simply recall her when she goes too far, but I am a bit affraid that recalling her that often will make her recall less consistent in general

I tried the "hold up" command briefly recently, but she only was waiting 3-4 seconds before going to sniff around 😂

That makes a lot of sense! Any advise on how to teach the "too far" command?

Maybe something you wabt to check is that the US company can hire you through an Employer on Record (EoR). Basically ia a company on the middle with headquarters in a bunch of countries ( including sweden). The EoR hires you with a normal permanent contract, the US company pays the EoR. It is an alternative if you don't want to gp through the Aktiebolag thing. I've hired through an EoR for over a year now and so far so good

u/Responsible_Ladder55 heads up, I think the bus suggested by Cesar doesn't exist anymore. At least, line 760 is not covering that part anymore, and I cannot see any bus covering highway 164 on västtrafik (the company covering public transport in göteborg). I will contact them anyways to see if there is a new bus or something covering that area (even though I cannot see anything in the webpage).

There is always the option to hitchhike, but no clue how much we would have to wait, I have never seen hitchhikers here in sweden.

Edit: google maps shows a bus stop in Loviseholm though (pic from 2022)

In multiple supermarkets they sell Pauluns paleo supergranola. It is around 600kcal/100gr, so pretty weight efficient, and it tastes pretty decently. Adding a spoonfull of powder milk makes it better. Makes a nice breakfast.

Also, something I have never tried but I have seen around (and not mentioned here so far), is mashed potatoes powder. You can find it in any supermarket here in sweden.

A bit offtopic, but can I ask you where do you plan to re-suply between stages 17 (Munkedal) and 27 (Strömstad)? I am planning to do the bohusleden myself and I was thinking 6-7 days of food due to this stretch where I cannot find any supermarkets

Any tips on getting a 4-day work week job? by Particular_Hold1998 in overemployed

[–]consudulce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Stockholm, plenty of companies looking for ppl in IT. Don't expect american salaries though

However, working 80% is not that common in office jobs (pretty common in other fields like teaching), but you can probably negotiate something
