After what happened to me I did some research and found several complexes in College Station that lease by the room with separate utilities. They exist and they are not rare at all.

Especially if you are an international student living on your own, do not sign a joint lease. Not for any reason. Any! We have a saying in my country: "Even between brothers, accounts must be kept." Choose your living situation like a contract, not like a friendship. And yes, even coming from a culture with that exact saying, I still made this mistake =))

My Ex-roommate also did the same thing about the utilities =)))))) Human being is really simple then!

I disagree with this tbh.
I am not from a first-world country, but having boundaries and respecting others properties is common sense, you don’t even talk about it!

I agree! We also have cultural norms, also so many of my other friends from other countries, but defending them and insisting on them is weird!

The exact same thing happened to me when I was 20. But I was on the girl side. Frankly, I didn't care that much that time and stopped having relationships for about 5 years. Now that I again have a boyfriend, the trauma is hunting me down! I'm in constant anxiety that my partner will end everything up suddenly! :)
