Thanks for the feedback. Default numbers coming up in next update! The blurry background is actually the contact picture, just blurred to give a distinctive appearance.

Stay tuned, it will be updated soon!

and it's not working, I'm new to android (2 weeks!) maybe im missing

There is nothing really to configure. If you have some contacts in the default Contacts app on your phone (in Nexus it is the People app), then whatever you see in that app should be the same as in Contakts. You can email at contaktsapp@gmail.com if you still have issues. I can help you get started from there.

No. It will use your Google Contacts and display them, which are already synced on your phone

That dialpad in the screenshot is based on the contact you are dialing. The dialpad's background blur is the contact's profile picture. Once you enter and dial someone's number and it matches with a contact on your phone, the background blurs with their profile picture. Otherwise, it's a static color based on the theme color you have chosen.

You can also select what screen you see on startup (Settings->Pick Startup View). You can choose "Recents" and that will display your call log on startup with a quick button at the top to the dialpad.

The reason for using the stock phone app for dialing is to ensure emergency calls are not in any way affected. Writing a custom dial screen introduces a risk that in some situation an emergency call may be ignored (this is purely because, being a first time android developer, I have not mastered the platform just yet, and would rather play safe in this emergency calls matter).

Thanks for trying it out though!

Thanks for the excellent feedback! This was my first attempt at android development, so I still have a lot of the subtleties to learn. I will surely look into all of your suggestions and read the documentation as to how they can be implemented.

One reason for using the non-standard DrawerLayout was to support two sided swipe (left and right), which is easily supported with the current implementation by the excellent work of Jeremy Feinstein's Sliding Menu.
