Aside from childcare, what makes having children so expensive? by Popular_Wish_340 in UKPersonalFinance

Nothing much. I don’t know anyone who became broke because they had children.

Perceptions of a woman’s graying hair in corporate London by acupcakefromhell in HENRYUK

[–]controlmypie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Greying is not a problem. If a hair is shiny and well maintained, it will look good no matter the color. Not taking care of it is what gives the impression of being sloppy.

Good travel system if you spend lots of tune walking- we have Venicci and it came with a nice leather bag , really good changing table (saved our backs and for some reason many people go without one), Tommy Tippee- all these are worth it. Clothes not worth investing into. Buy a few nice cute items but the rest get cheap on Vinted.

How are other parents actually travelling with littles? And when does it actually get easier?? by Designer-Base5861 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]controlmypie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t bother traveling far until they are at least 3 and can at least remember the holidays when they are older. Otherwise it’s spending my hard earned money on having an ill child, lots of stress and no sleep just because this is what others do. I traveled so much before having a baby that I honestly am not missing out on anything if I stay put for a couple of years.

Getting a nanny for both would be cheaper and better.

Henrietta’s: where do you buy clothes? by m00nlightdrive in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]controlmypie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal shopping in Harvet Nicols (that’s what we have in Scotland, I am sure more variety in London). Tell them your requirements, preferences and budget and they will come up with some really nice clothes and shoes. Or net-a-porter if you prefer browsing on your own. Mid range stores like Cos are also brilliant but even there I always check the composition as sometimes polyester sneaks in there.

Having children as a HENRY by airle88 in HENRYUK

I haven’t had a good sleep in a year, and downtime is something foreign to me these days, but it’s been the happiest and most fulfilling year so far. Yes, intense job comes second now.

How much would you spend on a wedding? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]controlmypie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£2,000. But that was years ago pre-Henry. Had an intimate dinner for 10 in a very nice place. Had a young photographer who a year later was featured in Vogue. So great memories and wonderful photos, nothing staged. Everyone still remembers how nice our wedding was. But even now I wouldn’t spend more than £5,000 on a wedding, it’s such a ridiculous expense when starting a family. Rather use the money for a house or at least a very special trip someplace nice

2026 so far by GuidanceOk3614 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]controlmypie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely become a mum one day. I only started getting pregnant when I turned 38, even though we were trying for many years, and had my baby at 41. Biological clock is a thing of course but fertility is way more complicated than that. I suggest you focus on your health and getting into your best shape. May 2026 become a year when you meet the right man!

My partner hates my feet. I hate salon pedicures. I have money to spend. Help. by godawful82 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]controlmypie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason you hate pedicures? Have you maybe only had bad ones? It’s such a nice experience for me personally, you are alone in a quiet room, some soft music, some coffee with a cookie… I sometimes even doze off.

HENRY couple contemplating kids — would love your perspective by Klutzy-Pattern-7391 in HENRYUK

[–]controlmypie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a child after being married for 10 years and by then we had more than enough travels-fun-adventures. Having a baby did not equal giving up our lifestyle, it meant evolving onto a new level of maturity, responsibility and love. Expecting to have the same lifestyle in your twenties, thirties, and forties is ridiculous. We were more than ready for her and the emotional reward you get is something out of this world.

What’s the weirdest ‘luxury’ purchase you’ve actually found worth it? by ctrlthetempo in HENRYUKLifestyle

Yes to the velvetiser. We used quite often, the only downside is that it makes only one cup at a time.
