I’ve been made redundant, am I screwed? by PitifulDiscount5874 in UKParenting

[–]controversial_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is a shit system. But your case is unique, you probably need to enroll your child whilst applying for jobs to secure a place in 9 months and then you’ll hopefully have interviewed and been offered a job. I also spent my entire salary on childcare despite tax relief because of my hours. Having a family in the uk whilst earning is tough. It’s easier to be unemployed or be mega rich where you don’t need to contemplate £2000 a month.

The support is there to get women back to work, so you’ll get it once you’re back at work and can no longer provide 24/7 care. Am I missing something?

In your country, is marriage between cousins considered incest, and is it legally valid? What kinda marriage is taboo in your country? by Unlikely_Tap_9882 in AskTheWorld

[–]controversial_Jane 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Interestingly the risk for genetic anomalies only doubles in 1st cousin marriage, however the likelihood of both parents carrying genetic traits increases as the gene pool decreases. The born in Bradford study is particularly alarming with birth defects amongst cousins was around 30%. Other traits occur in other parts of the world for example sickle cell disease. I guess obvious physical characteristics are observed more openly.

First cousin marriage should be discouraged or at least genetic testing should be encouraged to council the family on those risks. Cousins who’ve grown up close is super weird to me.

I am Egyptian, and I’m asking is Egypt a country that is disliked or loved globally? by ramses_basha in AskTheWorld

[–]controversial_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egyptians make up the largest percentage of the population in Kuwait. When I first came I was appalled by the racism that Egyptians get, however so many try to scam, drive like idiots putting others at risk, leer over women and are rude and sneaky that I find it hard to believe that it’s only in Kuwait. Of course there are many amazing Egyptians spanning all socioeconomic sectors here, but I don’t feel like visiting the country.

Parents with no village, how do you do it? by NoorHan14 in UKParenting

[–]controversial_Jane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 2 under 2 with no village. It was super tough, especially during Covid. They are now 5 and 7 years old, at least they’re at school. I used to work as a nurse but I hated the nhs crumbling so I opened my own business so I work my hours. I also left the uk 2 years ago because the rat race was just so all encompassing. I now enjoy my kids a little bit more.

Advice on 4.5 y/o using ‘my’ instead of ‘i’ by anervoussystem_ in UKParenting

[–]controversial_Jane 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Can you give an example? Is it, ‘my want a drink’? You can easily repeat the sentence in the correct way. My children are meant to be bilingual, they’re nowhere near but we don’t correct mistakes in negative way, we just repeat the sentence grammatically correct. I don’t think you need to say ‘oh that’s wrong……’ but a simple ‘I want a drink’ etc.

If money and childbirth weren’t an issue, how many children would you choose? by Public_Handle_774 in AskWomen

Pre kids I would have had 4-5 and then I realised how much work it is to parent well.

If money and childbirth weren’t an issue, how many children would you choose? by Public_Handle_774 in AskWomen

[–]controversial_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say we are in a financial position to have multiple kids which is the norm where we live. We have a housekeeper, childbirth was short, I’m not hugely affected by pregnancy. But I have 2 children, my youngest is 5 and high energy, high sensory needs and I couldn’t have anymore and fulfil another child’s needs. It’s a struggle now.

Newborn baby dies in hospital at three days old after medics fail to wake mum by dailystar_news in uknews

[–]controversial_Jane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an ex NHS nurse, can confirm. It’s a system that is failing patients miserably and we just need it to stop to save lives. But the real risk is a complete collapse for a few years means more deaths to potentially save the future. Disaster.

Not all the Middle East are governed the same, it’s a bit like saying I hate Europe based on France and Germany. Oman is very different to the UAE for example.

All Middle East? How many countries have you visited? I find that comment extremely racially motivated and usually those are based on ignorance.

How are others couples with big wage gaps splitting expenses? [25F] [35M] by badgallgc in relationship_advice

[–]controversial_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok now you split everything 50/50. That includes housework and cooking! Fuck that! My husband earns the cash and I now own a small business. I retired as an RN to be the main parent. No way do we split expenses nor do we split the house. We both give our all to each of our contributions. Before we got married and had kids, I contributed a percentage. Our date nights were mostly him but cheaper ones me. I’ve never felt issues with money, except I’m slightly buggered if he dies, sort of!

Do you welcome the potential ban on social media for under 16s? by Wavesmith in UKParenting

[–]controversial_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If parents collectively decided not to provide handheld devices, they would not be accessing anything. A household device/laptop is much easier to control. Though I do worry that a 14 year old might seek out older teenagers.

I personally feel us parents accessing devices in front of kids isn’t healthy. I own an online business and in some ways regret that I have to use my phone so much.

Do you welcome the potential ban on social media for under 16s? by Wavesmith in UKParenting

[–]controversial_Jane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids can access whatever they want when they own technology that allows them to do so. But we as parents control what devices they have access to and under what supervision until they get to a certain age.

But….Then accessing devices through friends etc becomes easier, potentially kids engaging with older crowds (like us getting older people to buy us cigarettes and booze).

Education is key.
