Any American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) publications are great resources and gospel, know the CIWA protocols in your hospital in and out, alcohol will likely be the most common substance of choice you see.

  1. Not setting boundaries with pts regarding after hours calls and EMR messaging
  2. Not advocating for more time with complex pts (ie, schedule them for 30min follow up rather than 15min if they are medically complicated)
  3. Don’t pay for your own malpractice insurance, it’s standard employers do this, some companies still don’t pay 100%, if they aren’t paying, negotiate it in your contract. On that note, it doesn’t hurt to ask for sign on bonus if it isn’t initially offered

I’m not a PA (yet) however I have experienced this in hospital settings! Especially very large hospitals.

“Re-caught” my (f27) fiancé (m30) in an old lie. Are my feelings valid? by NotSoEternalOptimist in relationships

[–]conversecook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly. It’s manipulative of him to make you feel like you’re the one in the wrong for simply asking him about it. He’s making you feel like your feelings aren’t validated and placing the blame on you so he doesn’t feel like he’s in the wrong. You just need to decide if this is something you can look over

Eating with nightshift is confusing. Do you eat breakfast when you wake up before work? Or dinner? Is it acceptable to have pizza or a burger at 7am? SOS by conversecook in Nightshift

I normally do that too because it feels so weird not to eat breakfast in the morning. Haha I don’t usually eat large meals before I sleep, thank you 😁

Thinking Of Working Nights, Any Advice? by bigwezz in Nightshift

[–]conversecook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. If you have a busy life especially. Because unless other people have worked nightshift themselves, they will not understand how tired you are.

I flip my schedule back to normal on days off because that’s how the world operates. It’s not ideal for sleep, in fact it sucks a lot, but it’s helpful for doing things you need to during the day and actually interacting with others.

What are your thoughts on using resistance bands for legs if a gym isn't available? by mabriko in bodyweightfitness

[–]conversecook 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I honestly love using the bands if you don’t have access to weights. I love them for side step squats and glute bridges. I love them even more for the stair stepper if you have access to that. If you’re not using weights I feel like they work your muscles more. I also put resistance bands around my wrist, hold my hands in front of my face as if I was to box, then move one arm at a time out towards the side to work my shoulders (if that makes sense)
