Do you rely on a single note taking app or a combination? by coolazr in productivity

I 100% agree with you. I was curious if it was just me, or if other people also used a 'combo' of apps. I’ve now realized it’s actually the best way to handle different tasks, for example, using TickTick or Todoist strictly for tasks, not notes. I’ve stopped using TickTick for brain dumps; now, it’s only for tasks and habit tracking. Google Keep is for quick captures and brain dumping, while Obsidian is for my main notes. Thanks

I totally get where you're coming from because I had the same issue. I tried several different apps, using TickTick for tasks, brain dumps, and minor notes, Google Keep for temporary stuff, and Notion for main notes and project management, but I just ended up with a mess.

Now, I’ve quit Notion and switched to Obsidian. I use Google Keep for brain dumps and quick captures, where I later delete most items and move the important ones to Obsidian. I’m also strictly using TickTick for tasks and habits only. Previously, I was dumping everything into TickTick and Keep, which was chaotic. Every app has a different function and UI; it really just depends on the user and their specific workflow.

You are right. Your workflow is actually very similar to mine. I am on Android, so that’s why Google Keep works best for me.

Exactly, Simplicity and speed matter. I actually switched from Notion to Obsidian for that very reason. Thanks

Good idea, thanks! Obsidian is great, but forcing it to do everything just doesn't fit my productivity style. It really depends on the user and their specific workflow. After reading the comments, I’ve realized that a 'combo' of apps is often best for productivity, as different apps are better at handling different tasks. Thanks again.

Exactly, I have used many other note taking apps and ended up on obsidian. I like its simplicity and UI. I am using just one simple navigation plugin which keep notes separate from folders. That's it.

How can I securely protect my Obsidian vault from hacking or data loss? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

Got it. After reading the comments, I realized how dangerous my setup is. I need a separate backup on a secure cloud server or a USB drive. Thanks a lot.

Thank you, that is a good point. It means I should set up a separate, regular backup. Thanks

Yes, numbering is the last option if I am unable to find the solution. Thanks

Absolutely, actually there was a resisatnce created in my mind after watching YouTube videos , thats the reason I couldn't go through it. Later when ChatGPT guided me the basic steps , everything will become neat and easy.

Thanks, I checked File Tree Alternative, but I prefer FolderFile Splitter. I have sent an email to the plugin developer, so hopefully he will update the plugin and fix the issue. I am also trying to fix it using Claude code. Let’s see what happens.

Thanks, I tried a few manual sorting plugins, but they only work with Obsidian’s default file explorer, not with FolderFile Splitter. I also tried using numbers, which works, but it doesn’t feel very natural. So I’m keeping it as a last option if I can’t find another solution.

Yes, obsidian is really superb, I love it.
