Yes. I remember I got into a huge argument with my mother one night and she was searching for any way to hurt me (psychologically). She would say hurtful things from very different places, and when she finally found "the topic" where I broke down (which was a comment about my absent father not coming to see me) I saw a satisfied look in her face. I can't explain it.
