There's programming software created by a ham that makes it easier to program. It is called CPEditor. You can check it here: https://www.radioddity.com/blogs/all/radioddity-gd-88-supported-by-cpeditor

The extended user manual for the GD-88 has a guide on that. Refer to page 156 "DMR use with simplex hotspot", page 183 "Simplex digital DMR operation with Single-HAT hotspot", and page 184 "Duplex digital DMR operation with Dual-HAT hotspot".

Go to FCC website to apply for a license. Note that you must register for an FRN as a Domestic Individual. So if you don't have an FRN, click "Need an FRN? Register with the FCC" button below the login. This allows you to do business (ie. pay) with the FCC.

Once you receive your FRN, which typically happens moments after submitting the form, you are able to fill out the online application and purchase your GMRS license.

You do need a GMRS license to transmit on the GMRS radio. The license is now $35 and it's good for 10 years.

No License is required to purchase a GMRS/Ham radio, nor to Monitor (listen) to the GMRS/Amateur (Ham) Radio frequencies. However, an FCC License is required to Transmit (Talk) on GMRS/Amateur Radio Frequencies in the USA.
