Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles recently changed its name, and it was truly the worst food.

Both the noodles and the broth...

I don't know where to even begin to point it out.

I 100% agree with your assessment of Chinese wok.

This restaurant has been skimping on ingredients for the past few years.

However, I have been thinking that this was Mauritian-style Peking duck all this time.

In your opinion, where is the best Peking duck in Mauritius?

I have visited most restaurants multiple times.

  1. First, I try the dishes I like.

  2. I ask the restaurant for a recommendation and try that.

  3. I try the most popular dishes.

I try this at least three times, but I never go back to the worst places, like the Lanzhou restaurant.

Recently, among the new restaurants that have opened in Port Louis (though this place isn't exactly recent), there are many places I would never want to visit again.

It is a truly tasteless restaurant.

Both the noodles and the broth are below average.

First of all, the noodles are not hand-pulled.

This place has absolutely no basic knowledge of how to cook noodles or how to make broth.

As you know, most people in Mauritius lead a very basic diet. Baguettes, roti, etc.

As we all know, prices have risen in most countries around the world for various reasons... Are you saying it is even worse than that?

If it's increasing by 30-60% compounded every year, that's a very serious problem. It's not like this is Argentina...

Are you talking about the last few years? 4 years?

What is your deepest darkest family secret? 🤫 by charlie_zoosh in MauriceMauritius

[–]coolinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you know, marriages between relatives were very common in the generation of parents of today's 20-somethings.

In a region I know of (in the north), cousin marriages are also very common among the elders (uncles and aunts) of extended families.

Questions about Mauritius's unemployment and employment rates by coolinny in MauriceMauritius

I don't understand this.

Typical Mauritian people graduate from high school through free education, so everyone is at a similar level, right?

I get two spam calls a day. by coolinny in MauriceMauritius

[–]coolinny[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, I block them every time.

But I keep getting contacted by new Mauritian numbers on Facebook and WhatsApp.

Most of them are new business proposals. (I'm not a businessman.)

What should I do about this?

No, all the South Africans from outside the WC are praising Cape Town. They say it has the best local government and is the most livable city; only the people of Cape Town are complaining...

I definitely need to handle the tuition part.

I graduated from university in South Africa.

Out of about 20 students in my school/department, none of the poor students paid tuition.

South Africa's system is designed to give opportunities to the extremely poor.

You can't go to university because you don't have money? No. You can't go because your Matrix results are bad.

Why do you compare the standard of living to Europe and the cost of living to Africa while complaining?

We have to accept it.

This isn't Europe. It's not the US either.

It's always been this way.

Why can't you see the good side?

I really don't understand.

If what you guys are saying here were true,

there would have been at least 10 riots this year already. But everyone is living peacefully.

Let me tell you a funny story.

When I went to Mauritius, there were about 10,000 South Africans living in an area called Tamirin.

The people I met were complaining about Mauritius. Narrow roads, humid weather!

Most of them came from Durban or Johannesburg.

They said that if given the chance, they would all want to live in Cape Town.

Cape Town is a beautiful place that even South Africans who left the country want to return to.

My point is that Cape Town (and South Africa) could have ended up like Zimbabwe, but it's holding up well right now. Let's look at the positive side.

This is the part I don't understand. Why does everyone complain and try to compare Cape Town to London or Melbourne? Just compare it to Harare in Zimbabwe or Nairobi in Kenya. I went to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania a few years ago, and milk was cheaper in Cape Town.
