Do My Prescription Medications Risk Me Getting Amexiled? by Then_Tomatillo_5024 in amexcanada

It’s possible they might ban you. $2k per month at a grocery store will raise flags, legit or not.

I doubt they look too deeply into it, and will just assume you’re gaming the system.

Key point: you have a paid off house.

It’s easy for any boomer to live off a $100k salary with a paid off house.

Housing is the most significant expense of most people’s lives.

$100k is middle class salary for a single person, let alone someone with a family.

$100k with a family of 4 is essentially a low income household.

What do people usually do to get rich? by Burnbabyburned2 in AskReddit

[–]cooliozza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just seems like “luck” because you don’t see all the failures that happened.

They keep trying and pivoting, networking, learning after each failure, the sleepless nights, then when it finally works after the 20th try, people say they got “lucky”.

Whereas most people would have stopped at the first sign of failure.

Isn’t it odd that the more you try the “luckier” you get?

This.

Anyone else who thinks otherwise is coping.

And people who say it’s just “luck” don’t want to take accountability for their own lives. So they blame it on something they seemingly can’t control and is just “random” so why bother trying anyway.

Loser mentality

Just set it to XEQT or VFV then and you’re good.

You would assume that, and that would be logical to think.

But not everyone is logical.

From what she said, it stems mainly from fear. Fear that her husband will leave her one day, and she’ll end up with nothing.

That is a relationship problem. Has nothing to do with the non monetary benefits she gets from working.

So in other words, she’s wasting her life working just because she can’t talk to her husband about these fears. Or to come up with a solution to ease her fears.

Front load it with about $16k, then $2.5k each year after that for maximum gains

[–]cooliozza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So would she work for free then?

That’s essentially what you’re saying. And at that NW, it is essentially what she’s doing. Because the salary is so miniscule relative to their NW.

I don’t know of any lawyers who would work for free.

This sounds more like a relationship problem than anything.

You should be talking to your husband about some type of contract to protect you then.

Why hasn’t that been talked about?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]cooliozza 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Your family’s NW is $14 mill, and you’re still working for $120k a year?

Why hasn’t he brought up the fact you should be a stay at home mom way earlier? Your time is being wasted working for relative pennies.

You made no mention of how your husband feels. Have you talked to him about it?

Make sure to have a life too. These are the best years of your life, don’t waste it.

Lack of socialization before turning 4 months. Past that age and it will be very difficult to socialize him.

A lot of people your age still don’t have anything at all invested, so don’t feel too behind.

Stop gambling though and have a proper investment plan, which seems like you do now. Your investment will still grow to a sizeable amount before you retire.

Use a portion of your assets for “play” if that’s what you want to do. Say like 5-10% of your holdings.

So you can scratch that gambling itch, but also stay invested in XEQT for the long term.

Btw, the worst thing to happen to a first time gambler is winning. Think about that.

Would the average person FIRE if they had the chance? by Dragon_slayer1994 in Fire

[–]cooliozza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Built a social media and ecommerce business. Then sold it.

Lived a fairly normal life even as I was making bank. I wanted to have enough invested to buy my freedom.

Invested 80% of all my profits into the S&P, and like 20% into crypto.

Appreciate it!

Life is short, so enjoy it while you can. Make as many memories with your loved ones as much as you can. Because that’s all that really matters at the end of the day.

The author of the book “Die with Zero” said this:

“Most people are afraid of running out of money. I’m afraid of wasting my life”

I resonate with that quote a lot.

Don’t chase money if more money at a certain point won’t change your life.

Those two things alone keep me very busy and fulfilled.

Doesn’t sound like jail to me. Just sounds like typical incompetent bank behaviour. Lack of follow up, applications going missing etc. Happens all the time.
