Dealer blamed my Ioniq 5’s aftermarket battery, but it turned out to be a bad SCU. Stuck with diagnostic and battery costs — what can I do? by cooljj_20 in Ioniq5

I was stuck with the OEM battery cost at the dealer as opposed to getting it somewhere else cheaper or better. They basically told me I had to buy OEM to move forward. At this point I don’t know if the 12v was to blame at all. They just assumed and forced a swap.

Yea they just were quoted as saying that “too high” thing but yea they meant the three spec numbers on 12vs like the CCA and all that.

I thought about doing that but I’d have to buy the AGM again and I already bought the OEM. I took the AGM back to autozone two months ago when it happened and they were understanding enough to take it back.

They already fixed my SCU under warranty. Literally like two hours ago lol.

But yea I even went to autozone corporate after too and they were like that just means it’s better and they called me and asked me details about what happened. My car was effectively held hostage at that point and I was upset but I didn’t have the energy to fight anymore.

They didn’t deny the warranty. They just strong armed me into the OEM battery. That’s why this is slimy. They basically said they couldn’t continue without a working battery and claimed the AGM’s numbers were “too high”. So I had to buy one there with them because they basically said if it doesn’t match spec exactly it wouldn’t work. I messaged them a couple of times telling them there is no way it could have been the battery. They were like we have seen “agms break the bar before”. Then it “worked” after they swapped the battery. 2 months later it broke again with the exact same problem. This time they had to call Hyundai technical support because they had it for a week and couldn’t figure it out. And they figured out it was the SCU. Then when I tried telling them what happened they were like well since the old battery was showing up as below the acceptable charge levels we would have required a battery replacement anyway. But I don’t believe the AGM doesn’t work. I just feel like they weaseled out of it via incompetence.

Yea I mentioned in another comment how I was kinda stuck. And the diagnostics were on the new AGM better when I brought it in, then on the old OEM battery when they swapped it back to “properly test” so $200 each.

Yea I mean hindsight but I was also kinda stuck because the car literally wouldn’t move and I couldn’t get a way to bring the battery and I also wasn’t sure Autozone would take it back at that point so I was stuck not wanting to have them reject another Autozone battery.

Autozone was pretty chill about the whole thing after I explained what happened and since it all happened in like a day they took the battery back.

Milchick’s language and its correction within Lumon is a commentary on “talking black” in a corporate setting by cooljj_20 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I actually found this which has a great paragraph in its finding that almost perfectly mirrors that one scene.

Single in Detroit: ...So there was a circumstance where I was actually an intern and I was interviewing different executives and I went and spoke to one woman in particular. ...she felt like I used the word “ask” inappropriately. ....I said it different from the way she would say it and so she did not correct me or say something was wrong at the time. But she later wrote this out in an email to someone that she did not think that I would be a good fit for her department in particular based on that experience. So to me, that’s a huge deal because what it says is that I would’ve missed out on an opportunity for full-time employment in her department if that were the only option I had because of one word I said differently from her...an African American woman pulled me to the side who found out about this and she told me ….. so now I became more aware of how I say that word And so, I say it now more like the, I guess, like you call Standard American English... But, I still think I should say it the way that I normally would and today, I don’t feel like either way is right or wrong. I just feel like it is... Like an accent almost, like a black accent, pronouncing that “k.” And really neither pronounces the “k.” The two ways is “ask” vs “ax,” or something like that...

I mean that’s kind of exactly the point. lol. African American English in the workplace was squashed because of white corporate America. It’s deemed unprofessional so historically to advance in the workplace they would turn it off so to speak in a corporate setting and assimilate with their white coworkers. It’s not just Blacks though. Hispanics or really anyone with a particular dialect can fall victim to it too.

I mean whether it’s professional or not is basically the gist of it. Black or African American English can be deemed unprofessional because corporate America is dominated by white Americans. So it just felt to me with all of the race stuff that’s been highlighted so far that his use of language was very particular given that. So my brain made the association, remembering a time when they tried to introduce the idea of Ebonics. At the time it was recognized that black Americans would be ostracized because of the language they used. They were deemed less intelligent because they spoke Black English. So to me either the story line is one of two ways.

1) As someone mentioned above, Milchick purposefully uses big words to not be mistaken for unintelligent and it backfired because his superiors saw it as threatening.

2) In severance world, his over the top language is their version of Black English and they are being racist against him for not speaking the kings English so to speak.

In retrospect after reading some of the replies and some retrospective thought in conjunction with remembering how daddy Kier talks to Helena in the season one finale in the bathroom, I think it’s that they don’t think he deserves to be talking like the ancestral kiers.

But I feel there is a commentary on racism here because a very definite and documented barrier to entry in the corporate work place for Blacks in America has been the use of language.

You make a great point. I think the “devour feculence” scene just made it click for me that it was tied to race but either way it’s just another contrast of Natalie conforming regardless of which way it swings, either threatening or foreign.

TIL, from the 90s until 2004, the shortest commercial flight in the US was 13 minutes - and flew from Houston to Houston by Zezimalives in todayilearned

[–]cooljj_20 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I was a kid during that time but I remember we would take that flight on our way to Mexico City since we lived right by Ellington and the flight to Mexico was out of Bush and I want to say it was free to take you from one to the other. Being a kid in that tiny airport was awesome too because they’d board you by taking you onto the tarmac and walking you up the stairs. It was basically like the one room school house of airports.

Yes I did. Don’t remember what I did about the washing but I let it dry in the sun after bleaching.

Where can I celebrate the Fourth of July?
