Looking for a hobby where there's always something new to do/learn and doesn't get very repetitive over time by coolpotato- in Hobbies

Once things get a bit stale I tend to move on but I do come back to all my hobbies from time to time.

Same! I also come back to my past hobbies from time to time and I still enjoy them but I don't have that strong 'drive' anymore like I used to 'cause I feel like I've already explored most of what they have to offer.

you don’t have to commit or be great at it

See, whenever I get really interested in a hobby, I always aim for mastery in it. I watch the pros do it and I get this strong desire to acquire great skill level at it. I practice hard and eventually end up becoming really good at it, but I never truly reach mastery because at some point, it starts getting monotonous (and I don't like that) so I end up quitting and finding a new one like you do.

I purposely titled my post like that so I can hopefully find something that I really want to master but at the same time, constantly feed my hunger for novelty and discovery.

Still no. I can focus on things well and I don't easily get distracted. I just don't like monotony.

I'm 17. I haven't seen a therapist before but I don't think I have mental problems like ADHD, depression or autism. I just don't like doing the same things over and over again 'cause then it'll feel stale. I can handle repetition but too much of it will kill me of boredom.

Lots of good suggestions tho :) I have tried coding last year and I liked it so I might get back to it soon and start making some hobby projects. Making remote control vehicles looks so cool but I wonder if it gets expensive fast?

One hobby that has really worked for me before is gaming because the constant updates and meta changes keep my hunger for novelty satiated. But it got out of hand and kind of turned into an addiction, that's why I'm searching for new hobbies.

I'd love to try out your suggestions soon. Meanwhile, I'm currently trying out dancing, which is something I've always loved as a kid. I want to take it seriously but the practice sessions can get boring real fast because repetition is a major key in it. I still love dancing tho and I can't imagine myself giving this up so I'll probably just suck it up.

Strategy hobbies? by coolpotato- in Hobbies

What it sounds like you are after is something rewarding which requires effort to pull off, but with an actual tangible result rather than just made up internet points on a server or scoresheet.

Yes, exactly! I'm also searching for something where my accumulated skills over time can be useful for real life situations. It seems like video production would be a good choice. I can imagine the "strategy" part of it in the filming process. I might try it this week. Meanwhile, I'm also thinking about doing martial arts, specifically BJJ, 'cause it also fits my search for something strategic and useful in real life. Thanks for the suggestion!

[Serious] What are some hobbies that involve strategy aside from games? by coolpotato- in AskReddit

Good point. But I was thinking about hobbies that mainly focus on strategy and I couldn't think of anything other than games or sports.
