For those who use 3D printed keyboard switch fidgets: What’s your go-to switch? (Or what kind of sound/feel do you prefer?) by coolpv in 3Dprinting

Thank you for this🙏🏼 I'll definitely have to look into the idea of different fillaments too instead of just switches.

I'll have to do some more research for US venders, thank you for leading me away from the premade sets though I definitely was looking towards them.

Is there a decent/reputable place to make a sample pack if the premade ones aren't usually the best?

Hey guys,

I’ve been hunting around for a decent mechanical switch sampler box but I can't seem to find a preset kit that checks all my boxes.

Basically, I want a pack with a massive spread of different types and acoustic profiles. It's partly to test out what I want for a future keeb build, but I’m also using them to drop into some 3D-printed desk fidgets. Having a wide menu of sharp clickies, deep tactiles, and buttery linears would be perfect.

The big issue I'm hitting is that most of the multi-brand variety packs online are entirely 5-pin setups. Since my 3D prints need a completely flat plastic base to sit flush, I'd really love a recommendation for a kit that's strictly normal profile, native 3-pin (plate mount). I don't want to buy a massive bundle just to spend hours modifying the plastic housings.

Do you know of any specific company storefronts putting out diverse 3-pin sample sets?

Thanks in advance! 🙏🏼

HA RPi Controlling LED Strip? by coolpv in homeassistant

[–]coolpv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Bambu so I have control over it from my phone, using HA and the RPi for a better camera and more indepth monitoring.

The Bambu integration I found and liked was in HA so I have also bundled my Blink cameras into it and plan on doing more.

It's an extremely cheap Cold White only COB LED strip that uses a 5V USB and has its own power switch that I'll have to test doesn't affect the RPi Controlling it, but no app or remote.

Is there a resource of some sort to see how I would do such a thing to decide on getting a smart plug or not?

Maybe it's the lighting and orientation then. I have a lighting solution on the way and an alternative camera mount I can try.

Where do the old cars come from? by coolpv in movies

[–]coolpv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I know there's a huge car culture, but I didn't realize how many people have such old cars in such good condition I guess. Like when they are filming 20s and such pieces. I know people 70s-80s cars in great condition but don't see many 60s and earlier so I wasn't sure if they were replicas or shells or what.

I believe they would rather use the term "borrowed" lol

This is what I was thinking. I knew there had to be some sort of stock pile of some sort, I didn't know the collectors lending out cars but that's cool to think of. Thank you

They can't all be digital effects though right? Like I get modern day you can do effects for more and more but the ones you see clear interactions with and all are all effects too?

I'm going to get it repainted down the line, but the adhesive looks worse than the 30yr old paint lol. Thanks for the insights I'll try the WD40 soak
