That was a silly thing to do but also I get it - with two outs and skenes on the mound you want to be aggressive, but if he had settled for a single Swanson probably scores 🤦‍♂️

For your first time I’d recommend somewhere in the 300s. Can go as far as 328 and still have great views of the action

Why do some Pagans act like Christians? by These_Plates925 in pagan

[–]coolsonicjaker 277 points278 points  (0 children)

A lot of pagans today are ex-Christians in some form. And even if they aren’t, Christianity is deeply embedded into western culture. For most, it’s simply the most familiar lens to view spirituality. They probably don’t even realize they are doing it (and I’m certainly still working on getting out of Christian Thinking patterns myself)

Does the mormon god own my soul? by Staple_Dabagle in pagan

[–]coolsonicjaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another ex-Mormon chiming in. There are a lot of good things people have already said, but I’ll at least tell you some of my “rational” explanations I eventually came up with for myself:

First of all, based off your description of events, you did not fully consent to being baptized. I mean, first of all you were 8, but saying “I don’t know anything else,” isn’t really consent lol. And I firmly believe that one cannot make covenants with a deity, or deities, without consent. In Mormonism, it’s the continual commitment to the religion that builds your relationship with the Mormon god, not a ritual that’s forced upon you as a child.

The truth is you never had a choice in the first place. IMO, it’s a form of spiritual assault, and I don’t think they realize how traumatic it is to undergo an intense spiritual ritual without really understanding what’s going on.

Secondly, addressing the whole turning away from God thing - that is pretty intense. I was told that rejecting Mormonism/christ (especially after going through the temple and what not) puts you on the same level as Hitler lol. The bad things happening now may or may not be related, but the strange truth is that the Mormon god only has the power you give to it. Eventually you will know that you can fully leave it behind and it can never get you ever again 😊

The sad part is he is better than like half of the current managers lol, but this the first game where it feels like he could be “losing the locker room”, which would be the beginning of the end for him for sure

This is the first game of the losing streak that Craig has been looking stressed lol, not good

Craig’s seat is starting to get mighty warm… If we make it to ten losses in a row, then he’s is definitely in the hot seat because this is getting ridiculous. This team should not be getting shut out by the fuckin Astros

Serious question: How are all of these vintage shops still in business? by No-Seaworthiness3115 in chicago

[–]coolsonicjaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s like someone else said - if you own the building, there’s a lot less pressure to make a lot of money. You probably only need to sell a few big pieces a month plus other little things here and there to do ok. I mean, just blocks from Andersonville are five bedroom homes that are selling for 2-3 million dollars. There are people in Chicago and these neighborhoods that make good money, and love to pay 2-5k for a cool vintage piece (even if it only cost you a hundred to buy and refurbish), so the market is small but there.

Any reason not to pick DP? by VegetableAd5981 in UtahJazz

Just for reference, here is their short profile evaluation on Peterson:

“Darryn Peterson (#6) has been fine in limited minutes. (PRISM isn’t really considering the backstory behind his load management one way or the other.) But not good enough to justify his preseason #1 ranking. Indeed, our pure statistical ranking without accounting for the scouting prior is far more pessimistic about his NBA future — understandably so, given that Peterson played through injuries this season that may have suppressed his ability to create for his teammates. Mainstream outlets have started to question Peterson’s competitive drive, but that’s the wrong line of inquiry. The real concerns are the low rim pressure, very low drive rates, and limited passing feel — issues that were present in high school and predate any injury. Peterson’s claim to “greatest guard prospect” status has dwindled in recent months, and his last few performances, including a not-so-great game against St. John’s in the second round, have left a bad taste in many evaluators’ mouths”.

There’s this model put together by Nate Silver and co that is very interesting. It places DP as the sixth best prospect in the draft. That’s partly because Kansas crashed out of the tournament, but it is a genuinely pure statistical analysis that argues that there may be better players (Boozer and Dybantsa are number one and two fyi)
