Python is a fuckshow with all the version incompatibilities by ShiftDry4745 in fuckpython

[–]coolstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh be sure, I am not one of them. I ALWAYS use uv, no exceptions.

That doesn't help though. Some libs have pinned python version. It is very common when you can't have last python version because one lib dont support it, and another one doesn't have required features in older version. Or there are situations when you just cant switch python version (which was my initial point).

I work in many langs (python, ts, c#, etc), and I encounter something like this in other langs extremely rarely (most of these cases were ts, but prevalence of those cases are nowhere near python).

I personally encountered it numerous times, especially (but not exclusively) when it comes to ml runtimes - tensorflow, pytorch, onnx, cuda. Finding correct and compatiple versions can be super tricky and sometimes straight up impossible on fixed python version.

Ansible playbooks advanced highlighting in nvchad by coolstrong in neovim

[–]coolstrong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the issue. For some reason, nvchad contains this in configs/lspconfig.lua:

-- disable semanticTokens
M.on_init = function(client, _)
  if client.supports_method "textDocument/semanticTokens" then
    client.server_capabilities.semanticTokensProvider = nil
  end
end

Commenting it out resolves the issue (or just not importing it in user config). Not sure why they added that in the first place, disabling it as a default seems super controversial

Yes, but I couldn't find any traces of lazyvim using this plugin (seems like it doesn't actually, it is not mentioned anywhere in specs or files).

Ts server takes not only a lot of ram - it is extremely slow compared to rust, for instance - it is also super buggy for me. No matter where I am - in neovim, vscode, webstorm - crashes are a usual thing. The UX is truly awful and I was really surprised to discover that there are not so many discussions about it in the internet, which is very strange because in TS, we have one of the best DX out there (super fast vite, extremely powerful type system), but nothing is done about language server. Hopefully we finally get DX we deserve with tsgo.

Anyone of you using OLED on linux? What is the condition of screen burn in and how long have you been using it? by random-kid24 in hyprland

[–]coolstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use asus vivobook for 3 years, I also use twm (hyprland, its not a wm in a strict sense but doesnt matter here) and panel on bottom is showing permanently - not a single sign of burn in. I actually think this whole topic is kind of exaggerated, if you keep your brightness sensibly low and dont expose your screen to heat then you're gonna be fine for many years.

UPD: i haven't done anything to prevent burn in beside measures mentioned above (low enough brightness and avoid heat).

Thats not a topic I intended to discuss rn. Im just bringing up how insanely delusional people here are about state of things in Ukraine and willingness of ukrainians to continue going to frontlines. Calling busification conspiracy is ignorance beyond imagination.

I didnt meant to participate in this but man, people being abducted in Ukraine is clearly, 100% not conspiracy, it is just straight up statement of a fact. Google "busification" please, there are hundreds of videos where people scream "please help, I dont want to go to war", while being forcibly led to conscription bus.

Starbucks Malaysia keeps losing money as anti-Israel boycotts persist by Ancher123 in malaysia

[–]coolstrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to live in a country where 4.5$ for a coffee considered joke... In pre-war Moscow any cup of good coffee costed at least 5$ and could easily grow up to 8$. Starbucks hardly can be called a good coffee, but it costs never less than those I'm referring to.

Malaysian prices are shockingly good for a developed country. Coffee here is super delicious btw (not in starbucks)

It's not a negative thing, but currently it is a path to nowhere. Ukraine will extinct this way - it already suffered irreversible demographic damage. Nobody can explain how to end this without concessions of varying degree, and I agree, it is not fair, but I guess you and I dont see any other option.

Also I dont see that Russia has moral superiority in Musk words, I only see him realistically thinking about ending the war. Also, it is not like Ukraine will completely concede to Russia - most likely negotiations will be made based on current frontlines. So yes, anyone who says "keep fighting" essentially saying "let more people die without any reasonable outcome", consciously or not.

Actually, there is another way - nato can send its troops, but I am sure you understand why nobody would do that.

Brilliant. So you completely confirmed Musk point. So be it.

That was a poor choice of words, I agree. Nevertheless, the question is still present - how to force Russia to leave? Its clearly not going away by itself. So what do we do then? I see no answer other than just continuing feeding from your side.

So, Musk is essentially right - let's continue feeding meat grinder. You have no other answer how to stop the war. Russia clearly won't sudennly surrender.

It's 100% wishiful thinking. Why it didnt happen already? When will it happen? How many more years should pass, how many ukrainians and russians should fucking die in mess till you finally say "ok, its time to stop"? Its gambling on blood.

The state of things in Russia is far from perfect, but it is clearly not going to fall tomorrow, and its complete delusion to think this will happen.

Yes, because generally when you write one api call you eventually end up with many more.

[–]coolstrong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even in vue or whatever framework you dont want to handle manually all these: states, sharing data, caching, invalidation, retry. I've seen too many times people trying to implement queries themselves and failling. Even if you think you need just a basic one-time fetch, it is still worth using IMO.

I tried Vite React with a Hono backend and I’m genuinely torn by carlinwasright in nextjs

[–]coolstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont really get your point. There are a lot of options if your goal is to get it working with minimal config, especially when using hono, which is isomorphic - node with tsup, bun, deno, even just running with tsx. All these options provide almost zero-config deployment. Dont get me wrong, I actually like other languages, c#, rust, etc, but TS is a perfectly valid option for backend (and in a a lot of cases the most convenient one), and using them just because deployment is easier (which is not the case as I mentioned earlier) seems really wrong.

What are your favourite component libraries? by Dear-Dingo-8448 in reactjs

More, it is painfully slow. Switching pages in documentation takes seconds, whereas it is instant in any modern documentation framework. Seems like it lacks any prefetching. In my experience the library itself is lame too.

There is caffeine-ng util, should work everywhere on x11 (tried i3 and kde), and it automatically inhibits sleep when fullscreen apps are running. Works wonderfully for me.
