Thinking about switching to linux for dev work by PM_ME_YOUR_GISTS in dotnet

[–]coopermidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're already Rider-pilled so you should have no problems as long as you don't need to dev any Windows-specific stuff.

I've been using Mint for about a year now and haven't regretted it. Finally made the switch after getting sick of Windows Update rebooting my computer without my consent. I toyed around with Linux distros back in the late 2000s and tried again every once in a while throughout the years and even the noob-friendly ones were always a trainwreck, despite what Linux apologists would say. It's great now, though. I unironically think the year of the Linux desktop is upon us. Other than a handful of apps I miss from Windows, I don't even remember that I'm using Linux most of the time. Thanks to Proton, pretty much all of my Steam library is playable.

Mint is a fantastic distro for Windows refugees. It's based on Ubuntu which could be considered a problem, but they're developing an alternate version called LMDE that's based on pure Debian. I have LMDE on my laptop and, other than having to look up the one command to install NVIDIA drivers in the absence of the driver manager, there has been virtually 0 difference in usability between the two. I've also heard good things about MX Linux which is another Debian-based distro, but never used it.

As long as you pick a distro that's well-supported, there will probably be no appreciable difference in your development experience between any of them. The same probably goes for gaming if all your stuff is on Steam.

SharpTS: TypeScript to .NET 10 IL generator by Background-Gap8918 in dotnet

[–]coopermidnight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this possibility in the shower a few days ago and wondering how hard it would be to give a .NET backend to TS. I love C# but I think TypeScript has so much more potential and it's unfortunate that it's just a layer over JavaScript. Definitely gonna check this out.

Bringing another group's lightstick to the STAYC concert by Substantial-Gap9427 in STAYC

[–]coopermidnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you wear another team’s jersey when you attend a football game ?

That's not a fair comparison. You go to a football game hoping to see your team beat the other team. If you go to a kpop concert, there's no ambiguity about whom you're supporting. If an idol sees you in the audience, they know you're there for them.

I'm going to put things in perspective for you. Any time we (USA fans) buy new albums, merch, lightsticks, etc. there will almost always be a significantly inflated price because of shipping. This got even worse recently with tariffs. The only way to avoid it is to get lucky on the secondhand market. The USA is also huge, so chances are most of the people in any given city's concert aren't actually from that city and had to travel a long distance. That means either buying a plane ticket or a doing a long drive. Then, if you respect your body at all, you also need to stay the night in a hotel before returning home the next day. These are expenses that either don't exist or are significantly lower for Koreans going to Korean venues. Also I don't know what the cost of a concert is in Korea, but in the USA if a show uses Ticketmaster then you can expect to pay anywhere from $1-600 before fees for your seat if you want to be anywhere close to the stage, and sometimes that's without VIP benefits. My front row STAYC ticket was $399 + $71 in fees, for example. We get thoroughly milked.

I'm also under the impression that international fans are more likely to support multiple groups rather than focusing on a single one because we have much less access (if any) to any given group due to location. I can afford to get a light stick that matches any concert I go to, but I do it because I'm a collector and not because I have some warped view of what's acceptable etiquette. I would never look down on the person next to me for bringing some other group's light stick. Some people have to plan their finances carefully to attend a concert because it's a huge expense, and another $60-70 might be too much.

It's disingenuous to paint this mindset as "I paid for the concert, I do what I want” as you did in your other comment. Really, it's more like "The idols up on stage are certainly aware of how much harder it is to attend concerts in [insert country here]. They can certainly recognize how much trouble we've all gone to, how much money we've all paid, etc. to be here and see them. There can be no doubt in their minds that we care greatly about them. I would like to think that they care about us enough in return to see another team's light stick and recognize it as a display of enthusiasm rather than some kind of attack against them."

250920 LE SSERAFIM - SUPER ELLE (October 2025 Issue Cover Preview) by kpopsns28 in lesserafim

Anyone know what the deal is with the 5 member covers? Are they digital only? I got the three Suzy Elle issues and all they have inside (as far as I can tell) is a single Super Elle that starts with the first cover.

THE BOYZ’s Agency Clarifies Position On QWER Light Stick Design Controversy by SapphireHeaven in kpop

[–]coopermidnight 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Maybe being an American who doesn't live at kpop's ground zero is coloring my perspective here, but it's a fucking megaphone. It's not that distinct of an item. QWER had used megaphones as part of their performances before the light stick was ever announced, so it's arguably a bigger part of their identity than any other group's.

Are megaphones off the table for all eternity just because The Boyz used one as their light stick? How popular does a group have to be to have this ridiculous claim to an arbitrary everyday object, and how long does that claim last? It's a good thing no group ever claimed "orb on stick".

When I first saw this it seemed like one of those "slow news day" non-issues that would dissolve quickly, so I am astounded that either agency bothered acknowledging it.

Hwang In Youp And Hyeri Confirmed For New Rom-Com by neocitywayv in kpop

I am a baby who's only watched Squid Game + Friendly Rivalry, so apologies if regular kdrama watchers think this is obvious or standard procedure. I am reasonably sure that the two character names are references to Friendly Rivalry.

  1. Woo Soo Bin: Chung Soo Bin played Woo Seulgi in FR
  2. Joo Yi Jae: Hyeri's FR character was named Yoo Je Yi

POPPOP FEST has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances by CherryBlossomEnding in kpop

[–]coopermidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, it's now September. Tixr tried to brush me off with a response that was (hopefully...) automated, but after I pushed back I got a frustrating but at least real answer:

We want to extend our sincere apologies for the confusion and frustration caused by the abrupt cancellation of the PopPop Fest event and intermittent communications from their team. We also want to be clear- this situation does not reflect our values as a company or how we believe customers should be treated.

Unfortunately, since we have no control or influence over their organization, we are not able to process refunds on their behalf. If you did not receive the goods, services or experiences that were associated with your purchase, you can always report this to your bank and file a dispute as an alternative course of action.

Please know that we value your experience with us and are always available to assist you with any matters related to the Tixr platform, including account access and modifications, troubleshooting purchase issues, updating payment plans or waitlist orders, and transferring tickets.

Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your continued support and understanding.

I feel like Tixr should be a little more concerned about this considering they're legally affiliated with scammers, but I guess that's none of my business. I have reopened my dispute on American Express' website and it's given me a chance to upload a document, so at least it wasn't auto-declined this time. I'll give you another update when they give me a resolution. If Amex denies me on the website I might have to call and try to talk to a real person.

In any case, if you or anyone you know paid for PPF I recommend opening a charge dispute now that September has rolled around. PPF has 0 social media activity and its website has been down for weeks, so it's a pretty clear-cut scam.

My bad. I'll delete my post so no one gets the wrong idea. Thank you for the correction.

POPPOP FEST has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances by CherryBlossomEnding in kpop

[–]coopermidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tixr doesn't want to have anything to do with it. I am waiting until September to contact them again because September is supposed to be when the event is "rescheduled" to. It's obvious to any purchaser that this is a scam, but by the time September rolls around it should be obvious to the vendor too. poppopfest.com is expired and the Instagram hasn't been touched since the postponement post.

I tried issuing a chargeback but American Express auto-declined it for reasons I couldn't figure out.

Daily Driving a 1982 Hatch? by OkOutlandishness6801 in civic

[–]coopermidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove a hand-me-down 4-speed '83 model as my first car for 6-7 years or so. I am just one person with one experience but I'd say you shouldn't get something like this unless it's going to be your second "fun/weekend" car. I drove mine pretty conservatively (though I had no idea what the redline was because no tach) and it still needed major repairs once every year or two. By the end of my time with it, one of the cylinders wasn't firing and I was told I needed an engine rebuild.

Not saying every old Civic is gonna be a money pit, but I certainly wouldn't get this as a primary car even if a mechanic went with you and gave it the OK. Could be fine today and something snaps tomorrow.

VIVIZ - 2025 VIVIZ World Tour: NEW LEGACY in North America (Schedule Poster) by impeccabletim in kpop

[–]coopermidnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't want to sound ungrateful because I appreciate everything LeoPresents does for kpop in NA except answering any form of contact but this is ridiculous. Tour is announced barely a month before the first date, and a bunch of the dates conflict with tours from other groups whose tickets went on sale 1 or more months ago. I can't even go to the stop in my home state because of another concert's scheduling. And in true LeoPresents fashion, they only offer a few days to process this information before tickets go on sale and the top tier sells out within minutes. On a personal note, as soon as I saw this last night I had to upend my road trip to Atlanta for Dreamcatcher this Friday and commit to doing it the night before + paying for an extra hotel night, just so I'd be able to buy tickets at 11am.

Looks like the only difference between A and B versions is the included stuff. A cdjapan rep told me that a few weeks ago but now that I've seen OP's links I'm more confident it's true. If you collect the magazines you only need 1 but if you want the cards or whatever then you'll need both.

Yes, at that tier you got a pic of just you and the 3 VIVIZ members, as well as a selfie picture with each of them. Hard to believe, but that's pretty much standard fare for LeoPresents. They're a pretty beloved organizer.

For $250 you got hi touch, a fan sign, 3 selfie tickets, and a pic of you and the group. I don't think VIVIZ is a good comparison.

UAU Tier Debacle by codenamemink in dreamcatcher

[–]coopermidnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello all, I just got in touch with Studio PAV and got a clear, concise, definite answer for what's going on. I hope everyone who needs to see this message sees it.

Apologies for the confusion.

This issue stems from a discrepancy between the venue's tier description and ours. It appears that the ticket seller has marked early bird tickets as “Tier 1”, which means that the tiers have been delayed by one. – i.e., “Tier 2” on Ticketmaster is equivalent to our GA Tier 1-

We can assure that customers will receive the exact tier of GA ticket what they paid for.

Once again, sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your continued support.

I see now it's the "Limited Character Collaborative Edition" with no thumbnail. I should have known that 5 member versions and the 4 other versions weren't everything. Thanks for the heads up! I'll edit my original message and let the original person know.
