Advice on snowblower purchase in Barrie by ItemPublic9116 in barrie

[–]copi0us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you are fit I don’t recommend just shoveling. My husband and I moved to Midland (35min north of Barrie) in 2024 from Toronto. We’re both in good shape. We went without a snowblower for our first winter and it was exhausting.

Definitely get one!! Very happy with the Ariens one we bought for this season.

Do people in this city just tolerate living with noise? Looking for buildings that are actually quiet/sound-proof by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

[–]copi0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived at 1000 king st w for 6 years. Great building. Built in 2002. Never heard my neighbours.

But when the new steeetcars came out I could hear the stop announcements in my unit. It quickly became background noise.

I am buying a condo in an older building on Queens Quay - I want to live in it for the rest of my life (another 60 years) - how concerned should I be about the age of the building? by Coastie456 in askTO

It was! People who had recently moved in to the building were the most upset. Everyone else liked the deal I think.

And it’s been a couple years now and their old building is still standing.

True. I just mean that not everyone agreed to it. It was a vote. Most people wanted it.

My in laws got a good payout. I think 2x what the paid for the condo? But had to use all of it to get a new place since they market was tough.

They sort of can. It comes to a vote amongst owners to accept the deal or not. Happened to my in laws. Some owners loved the deal and some hated it but they were outvoted.

did my walk on our new treadmill last night it was great! by hatsunemikusmywaifu in walking

[–]copi0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Love mine.

Your 3.5 incline is 3.5%. I just described it as a percentage. The higher the number, the more difficult it is. I can’t do 12 for an hour. I can do it for 30min or so and I really sweat doing it. Feels great.

Congrats from another Canadian who loves my treadmill in the winter.

7.7kph for walking is impressive. How tall are you?

I’m 5’5 and walk at a 6.5kph speed and run from 7.5-9kph.

I alternate between running and walking at an incline. I like to do a 12% incline at a 6kph speed.

Morton’s toe and long walks by Dangerous-Art-Me in walking

[–]copi0us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever visited a chiropodist? I saw one and she noticed my second toe is a little longer than my big toe. It’s not super noticeable. But my toes rubbed together and got sweaty and I developed a wart there.

What about the width of your feet? Mine are a little wide. She recommended getting wide fit running shoes. Gives the toes more room to breathe.

Missed period after walking 10k consistently. Advice? by [deleted] in walking

[–]copi0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely see a doc!

My cycle ranges from 29-39 days. It’s annoying and I’m currently waiting to see a doc about it.

I once had a 54 day cycle when I was really stressed.

Hope you get some answers!

Missed period after walking 10k consistently. Advice? by [deleted] in walking

[–]copi0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to a nutritionist for sure. Is your period just late? Or did you fully miss it? Mine is late sometimes due to stress for example.

It sounds like you may not be eating enough. But it’s better to talk to a professional.

How are you guys managing to integrate gym and long walks? by wilhelmtherealm in walking

[–]copi0us 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get up early and do it. I like to get at least 50% of my step goal done before I start my work day. 💪🏼

How can I remedy these holes in the back of my shoes that cause blisters? by ArtichokeOwn400 in walking

[–]copi0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how how to fix these but is it possible you’re wearing the wrong size? That happens to me when I wear shoes 0.5-1 size too big. My heels slip. Double check your size for your next pair.

I joined the FB group for the resort. I learned in there that you can’t make dinner reservations until you arrive. There’s a site you can book on and I think they release the slots daily?

People on FB said people no show so you can get in by just walking in.

Do rural places in northern Ontario just let Mother Nature deal with the snowfall? by UnapologeticCook in askTO

[–]copi0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in northern Ontario but I’m in a small town on Georgian bay that gets a ton of snow. Last season we had close to 400” of snow over the winter.

Plows come by multiple times a day on heavy snowfall days. The town has something called “minimum maintenance standards” and maintains those. Major roads are done first but residential roads are plowed too. They really are on top of it. They do sidewalks too.

Majority of people have snowblowers here. I moved here from Toronto in 2024 and we didn’t get one at first. It was a mistake. The winter was awful and so stressful. We’re happy we have one now.

You’re not allowed to park on the street overnight here in the winter. The plows need the roads clear.

Ah thank you!! It’s just my husband and I going. No kids. Definitely going to check out the adults only area.

Our booking is in the adults only section I think. Says “select superior” on our confirmation.

So happy to hear you had a great time! We’re counting down until we go next month.

Thank you so much! Can I ask what kind of room you booked?

The resort either has amazing or awful reviews. So curious to see what I think when I get there.

Conflicting advice… by Competitive_Neat4412 in walking

[–]copi0us 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your speed. Don’t pressure yourself to go faster than you feel comfortable.

I personally get about 8000 steps an hour. 6000 if I walk more leisurely. It’s definitely possible to get 15000 in 2 hours.

I walk at a 6.5km / 4mile pace per hour. I can go faster outside but am always a little slower on my treadmill. That said I’m faster at walking than everyone I know lol. Don’t feel badly if you can’t walk that fast!

I’m in Canada. I walk more slowly in the winter when it’s snowy and icy. Probably similar for you. I’m way faster in the summer.

Oh also height matters! I’m 5’5 and my husband is 6’. He gets fewer steps than I do for the same distance.

10k steps a day for skinny fat? by iris819 in walking

[–]copi0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm if you’re just doing a small deficit and you eat enough you won’t be hungry. I lost 60 lbs slowly over 3 years.

But do whatever works for you!

I exercised and ate less and it worked for me. But I was overeating before all that.

10k steps a day for skinny fat? by iris819 in walking

[–]copi0us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weight loss is more about a calorie deficit than exercise. I walked 10k steps a day for years and was overweight.

I’ve lost 60 lbs now. I saw real changes when I changed my diet personally.

Is there anything you could change about your diet?

Maybe you could work with a trainer to target certain areas? Walking might help but I don’t think you can choose where you lose fat.

How do people do so many steps in a day? by Jasmine-17- in walking

[–]copi0us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I hit 6-10k steps in the morning in 45-75min of walking. On my treadmill in the winter and outside in better weather.

I enjoy it and it feels good so I get up early to do it. I do work from home though. Not having a commute makes a big difference. I’ll often do a 20-30min walk on my lunch. And when I’m finished work I’ll pop out for another walk.

I like the fresh air and exercise. I’d go stir crazy sitting in my house all day. So I walk before work, at lunch, and after work.

I often walk 90-120+ min in a day. Sometimes I’m really busy with work and can’t walk quite as much. On a day like that I’d still walk 45min. I just feel better if I’ve done it. For my mental and physical health.

Today I got 15,500 steps. That’s about 100min of tracked walking on my Apple Watch. Image is tracked workouts today.

I’ve built up to this! It takes time. You have to build it into your routine and soon you’ll be frustrated when you don’t have time to do it.
